Well it is all fulled up! Plumbing works fine. Passed the flood test. I'm a happy camper! I wish the overflow wasn't so loud... It's right beside my sofa. Any ideas?
Oh. The sand is in. 40 lbs Carib Sea Aragonite, 70 lbs Nature's Ocean Live sand. Plus a little bit more... It's a great big cloudy mess. No pics for now.

Congrats on your new tank!!

Reducing the flow through the sump will make it much more quiet. I was going to recommend micron sock but you already have them!

What exactly are you hearing? Water splashing? pumps?

The sound is the water trickling into the overflow... It drops about 4". Is that not normal?

BTW, just got my lights set up. They're DA BOMB! The fan sounds like a spaceship taking off (not that I've ever seen/heard that in person, LOL).
Really wish my RK2 was here. I have everything plugged into NORMAL surge protectors. Nothing is "put away" right yet because I'm waiting on the reefkeeper. UGGH.
Tanks still a cloudy mess...

Nope... no overflow pics. It is a used tank... shouldn't it be "broken in"?

BTW, since I was talking about "used" in the last post... I just have to share this. When I was in the LFS, I was talking to "my guy" about a hippo tang. I have been watching them for awhile, and it makes me nervous because they never seem to do well. I've read a lot about them being "delicate shippers". And, I have witnessed it with the shipments they've received. So, here's the deal... When I'm ready for it, he will sell me the one he has in his home tank. It's been there since June 06. I really want a hippo (not b/c of Dory). Is this a good idea? When we were discussing price, I told him what he wanted was too much because the fish was used, LOL.

can't grind a grinder huh? over the years Ive had several, quarentine would be very wise even if you know the fish, Im not a big tang fan personally but they sure are some pretty fish

I never had a problem with sound from the overflow. Below is a pic of it in action. You could easily extend the tube higher.

I will definitely QT. I'm just hoping that getting it from him, tank to bag to my house in less than 1hr, that the stress won't be an issue... I just love their plain goofy-ness.

I think the only reason the noise is bothering me is because it's right next to where I sit. Good news is when I turn on the lights, the fan is louder

Thanks BSJ... I am hoping for the best. I haven't had the lights on much... hoping the fans break in too.

The water is still pretty cloudy... Is this normal? Can I speed up the process?

Fine sand just takes a little longer to settle down. My tank was cloudy for 3 days or so Just give it time You will be fine.
I thought the fans on the lights were loud at first also but you get used to them. Very quickly they will become white noise.
You may have to much flow on your return pump going back to the tank. Open up either the fuge line or the recirc line a bit more and I bet it will quiet down for you.
