Re: blcktitaniums 185gal Starphire or Acrylic New Tank Build

great new thread!!! i like the dry box.... and JFKs input is awesome!! you could also do electrical conduit PVC and put a connector and box on the bottom if you didnt want to do a bulkhead...

billyr98.... thanks.... and yeah I was thinking about the conduit as well just trying to figure which would hold better just in case if what JFK_JR stated earlier would happen.

Re: blcktitaniums 185gal Starphire or Acrylic New Tank Build

Ok, I have just little less than a month over here then I will be back home and ready to tackle my new tank.

Just a quick update I've decided to go with glass over acrylic and ordered my tank today and it will be ready for me to pick up as soon as I return home.

I decided to go glass for several reasons, but the biggest reason is for the scratches and plus I love the look of the Starfire glass.

I talked to the builder of the tank and they told me after they drill the holes in the bottom glass then they temper it.

So he assured me that that It wouldn't crack and it would be safe. I know that the potential will always be there that it will crack.... I just hope that luck will stay on my side and it want.

I can't wait 1) to get home and 2) to start my tank.

I will post pictures of the tank and stand once I get home and pick it up from the dealer.

Re: blcktitaniums 185gal Starphire or Acrylic New Tank Build

Well, everyone just little over two weeks left and I will be home and ready to tackle my new tank.

Though today I got some very discouraging news from the builder of my tank. They told me that the way I had my tank designed for th CL wouldn't work, and that many holes in the bottom would stress and crack over time.

Of course I thought that all along, but they assured me they could do it, so I went with it, because I really did want starphire. So, I have to go Acrylic not all is lost there are great things about acrylic as well, just hate the idea that it scratches so easily though.

So, now my tank wont be starphire, but instead acrylic. Just thought I would keep everyone informed. Also in about 3 weeks I will start posting picture of the setup and all.

Re: blcktitaniums 185gal Starphire or Acrylic New Tank Build

who was the builder?
did you try miracles in glass or aquarium obsessed?
another builder to consider if you really want that closed loop is AED, they are making starphire glass tanks with pvc bottoms.
also, you could always do the closed loop over the top bracing and just conceal it with the canopy.
lemme know if you need some links

I did try miracles and aquarium obsessed, the only problem is the freakin shipping/frieght cost to the west cost damn near as much as the tank. Anyways I might just have to pay for it. AED?? could you provide me that link please?
