You are probably up to your knees in saltwater. Won't bother you too much. Post when you can. We are pacing in the waiting room!

It is done.

Wow! I have done this sort of thing before a few times but had forgotten how much fun it is.... I am sore from my nose to my toes!

I started yesterday right after work, 5:30pm, and finished just before 2:00am. I managed to get a nap of 3.5 hrs

Everything is doing great. No leaks, no deaths.

The durso stand pipes had me a bit worried with the 'flushing' surges but I remedied that by drilling a few more small holes in the end caps.

I am not overly thrilled with the sound of the Iwaki pump. It is the first external pump I have ever had and I am comparing it to prior submersible pumps used. I don't know if that is a fair comparison. Anyway, the sound shouldn't be as bad when we install the doors on the stand.

Seeing the sump in action, I wished I would have done a few things differently.... I might replace mine later....
  • I would make the bubble sump baffles over/under/over instead of my under/over/under. The way mine are now, the surface water of the very last chamber is stagnant.
  • I would have made the last baffle larger since this is where the evaporation is shown.
  • I would have made the refugium more shallow because the water coming into it from the overflow is turbulent and is going to cause a lot of salt spray.... I am going to make an acrylic top for it soon.
  • I would have used a smaller aquarium for a sump. I have less room in this stand to work with than I did in my 90 gallon. I was so consumed with 'more water volume' than I was with planning out the other things that need to be installed there (ATO, Phosban reactor, misc stuff).
For the safety of the fish, I have the purple haddoni and clown in my refugium temporarily until I am somewhat satisfied with the aquascaping and the fish become accustom to their new surroundings.

On with the pictures!!

The calm before the storm...

Re: ~Woody's 120 Escapade~

Well done Doni!

I agree with your observations regarding sump baffles and the depth of the refugium, but that is a relatively easy fix as you can switch out the unit some time in the future, eh!

You can fix the sump easy enough All you have to do is cut out the one baffle closest to your return pump and and move it to the other side in the skimmer chamber. This will not only fix your stagnant water but make your end chamber a bit larger. Not sure how your water is feeding into the fuge that is making it turbulent but you can add pvc or locline to bring the flow below the water surface and maybe reduce the flow a bit.
You can use a spare tank or your old sump under there for a day or 2 while you fix it

Glad everything went well!!!
