no it doesnt. i think there are 2 factors. 1) the substrate is crushed coral instead of that ultra fine sand and 2) i think the stuff in the main tank is feeding off of the detritus that settles in teh sand. since the sand is so fine, the detritus kinda mixes in with the sand, thus making the sand itself algae food.

Your tank looks great. Keep an eye on the three cardinal fish because once two pair up, they will kill the remaining cardinal.
