Re: My tank is almost 'done'

i guess i havent updated much because ive been updating my reefspace, but uhhh... lets see wahts happened.

i currently have a pretty mushroom coral and a small colony of button polyps. i just got a 96w PC ballast for $14 on ebay! then i found the bulb for only $6!! so all i need now is to build the hood for them to go into. i plan to make it out of a sheet of stainless steel. im going to put the PC bulb in it, along with my 2 NO bulbs and leave room for a MH in the future, so it will be a spiffy all in one hood.

once i get that up and running, i REALLY want to get a few ricordias!

sadly, my lionfishs died. the first one died a few days after i purchased it. the second had quite a battle with tail damage and eventually died from it

so now its my 3 cardinals and clown in the 10 gallon side tank. and thats about it!

this pic is a little old, but is my current tank setup.

my lion who recently died, with my pretty mushroom (traded to me by a local reefer)

Re: My tank is almost 'done'

well the algae problem is still there. this pic was taken shortly after adding more sand. thanks for all teh compliments.

the algae scrubber needs some modification to do what squatch and i want. the very first design i had involved using sand as a substrate and i think i may modify my current scrubber to include sand.

as for clear water, i THINK it may be due to the way my sump is set up. its really weird, and it was partly an accident, but ill try to explain. i have a HOB filter that i bought a while back. i have that running in the sump. heres the interesting bit though: i have the HOB taking in water from the first chamber of the sump, and dumping it into the second chamber. when i first set it up, i thought it was just filter some of the water, and the water would continue to overflow over the diving wall like its supposed to. well the filter ended up filtering all the water flow through the sump, so it doesnt overflow the dividing wall at all. as a result, all of my water goes through mechanical filtration, which removes a lot of the visible particles that get end up floating around.

ok so, hopefully today i get the piece of stainless steel that i will start building my new hood out of. woot!

Re: My tank is almost 'done'

John, now that your lion is RIP have a little sympathy and move your clown and cardinals to the main display so that they can have a more natural aquascape. BTW, how did I rank to end up quoted in your signature! LMAO!
