| Over Achiever | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama A big THANK YOU to Tbittner for leaving work and going out of his way to come over and help me set up the Solaris. When he got here we both stood back, looked at the situation at hand and scratched our heads. "How are we going to get this done?". After a bit of tinkering we decided to try and get the cords out. Terry was able to pull on the stand just enough to allow the cords to pass. This was after we unscrewed the old light and tried to liberate the electrical cords (which wasn't going to happen). So we got the old light unhooked and the Solaris went up like butter. No problems getting the cords behind the tank and into the stand. Woo hoo! All in all it took about 1 hour, although Terry was here longer, we took some time to chat and gossip about RS! Joking!![]() First, my impression of the Solaris. The styling of the fixture is less than that of the Aqualight. Since I do not have a canopy to hide the light, the styling is of great importance. I liked the thin, streamline design of the Aqualight. The Solaris is boxy, but I knew that when I purchased it. My wife always wanted a canopy, but since I liked the styling of the Aqualight I never pursued it. I guess now is a good time to consider a canopy. The Solaris I4 has 3 modes. The first mode is Auto Timer Mode in which the fixture operates like it is controlled with timers. These times can all be programmed in by the user, however, sunrise, sunset, moon rise, moon set and length of cloud cover do not work in this mode. The second mode is Manual Mode. In this mode the user can adjust the light output of each string of LEDs independently. The third mode and most impressive is the Solar Mode. This mode regulates the lighting 365 days a year lenghtening and shortening the days. Sunrise and sunset change every day according to the Earth's rotaion. The same occurs with the moon cycle. It also has a cloud cover feature. During the day the LEDs will dim for a few minutes to simulate cloud cover! How cool is that! The length of sunset, sunrise and cloud cover can all be adjusted as well as the frequency of cloud cover events.I'm completely impressed with the Solaris so far. In a nut shell the Solaris is magnificent in it's ability to light the tank. It seems like every part of the tank is penetrated by light. Although the light is bright at 100% intensity, it is still kind of soft and brings out the colors of the tank. My tank went from bright and washed out by the MH to bright and technicolor with the Solaris! Currently, I have the blue and white LEDs set at 50% intensity to avoid any bleaching of my specimens. Even at this intensity the color is spectacular! I'm convinced that I have made a worthwhile purchase and only expect great lighting as I learn the functioning of this fixture in the coming weeks! Here are some pictures to get started. Tank with MH and actinics in function. (No flash) ![]() Tank with Solaris, blue and white LEDs at 50% intensity.
