Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Kathy, yes it is progressing as they age. Here is a picture when I first got them, in Jan. 2007, as tank raised True perculas.

And now.

Thanks to everyone else! I'd karma ya, but...

Cheeks, I have been fortunate that my Cherub is well behaved. I hope it stays that way.

Drew, I know I have other Gorillas, but none like the one I pulled out the other week!

Jeff, I have had no problems with my Longnose hawk. Like I said, I don't know what happened to my peppermints. My gut is that the fire shrimps killed them. Those fires are aggressive. They chase my cleaner shrimp.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

I had the Hawaiian Hawkfish. His mouth was much bigger that the longnose. My guess is that's the difference. They'll eat what ever will fit in their mouths, like most fish.
Those percs are beautiful. It's cool how much blacker they've become. You're such a good daddy!

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

huh, now that's interesting. I wonder if they'll eventually become all black. Do you know if this is common for onyxes or BW percs, starting out as "regularly" colored and becoming blacker as they age?

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

There is a guy here in DeKalb, IL where I live that breeds Onyx clowns and he is known around the country as one of the best when it comes to these fish. I'm waiting until my tank is a little more mature to pick up a pair from him. Dentoid are these by chance from Rod's Reef? Here is a link to his site so you others can read up on them too. True Onyx Perculas will become all black with the white bars of course and their pectoral/ventral fins are the only part that will remain orange, if I remember correctly.

BTW Scott I think it's time to soak the Vortech in some vinegar...
I love how the Hawkfish perch/pose, great shot !

I got them from one of my LFS, The Marine Scene. I don't know where they got them. They were sold as "True Perculas".

The Vortech was off at the time. Otherwise the hawkfish would not be sitting there! The fish like to pick at the algae that grows on the inside.

They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. When I was at MACNA I asked the Echotech saleman if I should clean off the coraline algae and he said no need to. I'm thinking he was wrong. What do salesmen know anyway! I'll clean them straight away!

He said NO because the sooner it builds up and binds the impeller the sooner SOMETHING wears out and you have to replace parts/pump.
