Wow! It's interesting reading about these critters because I have something, I'm not sure what, that has dug a huge cave underneath one of the rocks. It's even dragged a smallish piece of rock over to kind of close up the opening. I saw my brittle down in there and I thought it was him but then I saw him out under another rock. So, I'm not sure what it is. I hope it's not one of the beasts like you just caught.

It took him an hour to survey the opening before he slowly wandered in. Damn, the trap is jammed. I reached in with the skewer to tap the trap door. Damn, it was really jammed, the crab got away. Another hour of the crab surveying, then he went in again. This time I just reached in snatched the trap out with the door open. Got that sucka!

Nice catch! You are one lucky guy to be getting the Solaris I4. It has everything you could want and enough wattage/intensity to keep anything...

What a nasty bugger that crab is, YUCK. Man am I glad you finally got him.
I finally figured out how to subscribe to a thread so I'll be able to check this one out more often. It's a goody!

Sorry to say, he went down the toilet! It killed me, but he made me mad when he used my maxima clam as a roof.

Nice catch Doc. I personally think flushing it was a waist of good bait. To each his own!

I would have put him on a skewer
and given my mantis shrimps a crab-ka-bob.

tbittner - My mantis just recently made a similar type of excavation under a large rock including the use of a smaller rock to hide his work.

All good ideas on how to dispose of a gorilla crab. By the time I caught it the time was midnight. Usually I would take it to the LFS and an employee would take it. One guy there has a mantis and he always liked it when I brought my gorilla crabs in. Unfortunately, he doesn't work there anymore.

Nice catch Scott. Those darn crabs are terrible.. I saw another one in my tank last week.. It is a big one.. I gotta figure out how to catch it. It moves to a different spot every night.
