Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

WOW nice. Saw your post on the elegance questions thread, had to get on this and see pics!!! I want a blasto now after reading coral of the month and seeing yours. We'll see.

Is the Scolymia a brain coral? If so, that's the first orange one I've seen.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Kathy! I think in general terms, I have seen it referred to as a brain coral, button coral, meat coral and donut coral. It's is similar to the Cynarina coral.

On the Elegance. I'm giving this little guy a go. It's a frag from a supposidly healthy tank raised colony. I was concerned because it broke from the mount in shipping and I had to remont it. It is very small. No more than 1-1/2" when open at this point. The skeleton is tiny, so remounting was tedious, trying not to touch the fleshy part. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I believe it's an Acanthophyllia deshayesiana many times sold as a Scolymia.

Thanks Robert! You are right again! The tissue is completely opaque on this specimen. We'll have to start calling you the Coral Whisperer!

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

They are all very beautiful! Lots and lots of color. Watch your larger fish with your Acanthophyllia deshayesiana (mine ripped the flesh right off of mine to grab a piece of food out of it and killed it). They didn't mean to do this, they just didn't realize what they were doing. They were very sorry!

Hope the elegance pulls through for you!

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Good luck with the elegance! Everything looks awesome. I gotta have a frag of those blastos when frangging time comes around. They are super cool and look very healthy.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

The Elegance is doing well. It has perked up considerably. It's tiny, it can't be more than 2" in diameter, and has great color. I'm having a hard time finding a spot in my tank with low flow. I have been alternating on/off my Vortech pumps. It seems to respond to the MHs coming on, and expands to their cycle.
