Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

I noticed it before the tang went in. I suspect the foxface. However, they tend to pal around-if that's possible. Thanks for ya' all's input. It isn't getting worse though-seems to better, perhaps the tang is giving the foxface a run for its money.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Craig. I'll keep a close eye on the angel. The tang went in last, so hopefully the angel knows the territory better.

Thanks Steve. I hope I'm not going too fast. I have decided to stop here for awhile and see what happens. I appreciate your input.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Well here is a weekend update. I tested and here are the parameters:

Ammonia=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate=40 (eek!)
pH=8.2
Calcium=500
Alk=8
Phos=0.25

I have been working diligently on getting the nitrates down. I have removed all but about 1/4 of the bioballs from the trickle. As soon as I get them gone I will no longer use filter floss on the drip plate. I think this may be where they are coming from. Don't know why the Ca is so high. I do not add anything, although, I have a Ca reactor it is not hooked up yet. I hope to some day house SPS's.

All the inhabitants are doing well. The tang and foxface are bulking up in the waist, eating the caulerpa and other green macros. The flame still seems to be being picked on, by who I have not seen. They all pal around when out of the rock work. I think it's going on behind closed rock walls. At least he's not cowering and he doesn't miss a meal.

I've been doing research on a new sump/refugium. I have limited space with which to get large equipment into and out of my stand due to its location-bad planning. Hopefully, I will solve this dilemma.

I have added another coral and I have decided to stop adding livestock until I get the water parameters under control. Here is a picture of the recently added torch coral.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Doni! The temptation is to keep stocking, but I feel like my water chemistry is just not there for a tank this new.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

The water isn't bad. Just keep cleaning out the ditritus and doing water changes to get the trAtes down. It shouldn't take long at all. Soon you'll have it fully stocked and looking for an upgrade! LOL~

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Regarding your calcium, make sure you check your magnesium level. Also, I would think the filter floss would HELP clean stuff out of the tank -- as long as you are consistent at cleaning it! Also carbon will help if you aren't already using that. Patience is the key, and we all have plenty of that - right?

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Bluespot'-Thanks for reminding me of the patience factor. It's so easy to overstock in the beginning because of the excitment level in this hobby. I am taking your advide and that of others. (Note to self-take it slow, patience, patience, patience.)
