| Watch this Ma! | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama Ahhhh man, that sucks! Isn't it amazing that even in our small tanks, those critters can hide for YEARS and never be seen. Amazing! You're right though, it very well could survive and grow up from where it's at as long as the flow can get some food to it. Who knows, you may have come up with the perfect method for growing these sponges out. ![]()

| Elegance coral | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama [quote=Dentoid;465547] I got a flashlight and spotted it in the claws of a Gorilla crab. This is exactly why I won't do TBS. It may be great rock, bit its just not worth the risk of losing rare specimens. Sorry to hear about your loss Scott. |

| Over Achiever | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama Terry, it is amazing what you find when you turn over a rock that's been sitting for some time. When my Colt coral recently died, I moved some rocks on the left of my tank to accommodate the new green Pagoda. I found some really cool tunicates underneath that I didn't know were in there! I liken this to removing old silver fillings from patients teeth, there is always stuff under there that you had no idea would be there!Sarah, thanks for stopping by! Like I said, it's always, As the Reef Turns at the Reeforama! ![]() Robert, thanks to you too. I think these misunderstood crabs have a role to play. Albeit, I don't know what it is, but I feel that they are like the bees of the ocean. They steal stuff and take it to their burrows, possibly seeding new organisms at that site. Then again, they could be eating it too. Don't get me wrong, I don't like losing rare frags by any means, but I try to understand their existence. If I were to set up another tank, I wouldn't hesitate to use TBS rock again! ![]() |

| Watch this Ma! | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama I know what you mean, Scott. I can't get over how many mushrooms we've found on the rock that was at the bottom of the 120. And a small leather... And I know that those rocks had been covered with sand. Oh yeah, I had bought a pipe organ about 8 months ago. It stopped opening after about a month. It still felt slimy though so I put the rock in the back of the 120. Now I found on a different rock, in the 450, where this slime had spread and I can now see pipe organ polyps peaking out. Amazing!!!

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama I thought I had all of my gorilla crabs too until I emptied out the 50 and found one on a rock. This one was pretty dumb as it let me just grab it and kill it. Oh, so fun it was (that sounds aweful)! Sorry about your sponge Scott. There is no purpose for evil gorilla crab(s) in your tank except to eat your sponge, fish, or whatever they can lay their grubby little hands on.

| Golden Moray | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama I'm so sorry Scott. That sponge was awesome. I have the opposite problem most people have...I can't keep a crab alive, except hermit crabs. We've gone through 2 emeralds and a sally lightfoot. We have 2 hermits on the other hand, that are larger than our turbo snails. I hope we'll get them all out in the move so we don't have to deal with issues like yours in the big tank.

| Dancing Mandarins | Re: Dentoid's Reeforama You are right there Frankie! They grow too big for the closed environment and do considerable damage. My poor acros are beginning to come back. Poor babies. Sorry about your loss Scott.
