Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Great shots!!
Is your little elegance perking up? It looks better than some of the previous shots Ive seen of it.
Spotty looks great, and I love that Hog.
Does Spotty have a small lesion on his side? It may just be something in the water. Has he had any jumping episodes?
I hope my new tank has as much coraline as yours.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

The elegance does look better then it did at Mr. Corals. Spotty came out for a photo shoot, eh?

Have you noticed your candy cane nibbling at shrimp yet? Or has he left everyone alone?

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Al, Greg and Drew. I respect your opinions and it's great to get affirmations from the people I respect.

Same goes for you Michael! That is one of those white spots that BS get. Spotty is not immune from the color changes in skin as all other BS. What caused it is a mystery. With all of his digging and rubbing up against rough terrain, it is no wonder he has the occasional color change. He is very hardy, eats well and is otherwise a normal acting BS. Spotty doesn't really jump that much and stays pretty much to his burrow.

As far as the Elegance goes, it is plucking my every last nerve. I haven't had it long enough to become familiar with when and what makes it happy. Just when I think it is dying, it inflates and looks like that. I have been getting some advice from Greg on how to care for this beauty. Here is another picture of Spotty using it as a door mat!

As you can see, he has some color changes in the skin here too. These spots can be there today and gone tomorrow. From my observation, these pigment changes are not uncommon. It's entirely possible that he is being stung when he brushes up against corals with stinging nematocysts!

Just when I think I've thanked everyone, along comes another buddy! The hogfish, although pesky, is too small to bother the shrimps. They are bigger than he. Only time will tell!

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Scott, When I saw those spot I did not even think about the "white spot" problem. I immediately thought they were from digging. When you had Dotty did she stay to her burrow like spotty or did she venture out more.
I wonder why Jose wanders around so much. Even when I had my exquisite wrasse, Powder Blue Tang, other Clownfish, and LT Anemone, he would swim end to end. I guess since they all have different personalities this is to be expected. But when I walk into the room to see Jose on the opposite end of the tank as his burrow, I FREAK OUT. Then I remember I am dealing with Jose that Super Blue Spot. Also I have never seen the White Spots or scale damage with Jose. I guess that could be due to my fine grade sand, or his willingness to stay out of his burrow 95% of the time. I hope that I am doing something right, and not just lucky. Sorry to steal your thread I just like to compare Jose to your Little guy.
You are the Blue Spot King so I like to compare Jose to "THE KING'S" Spotty.
~Michael

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Scott, beautiful video! Ok, I haven't been online for a bit; how long have you had the elegance? How is it doing? I have stayed away because of issues with them. I tried one about 2 years ago - it was beausiful, but I couldn't keep it alive.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Michael, Dotty did stray from her burrow more than Spotty, but she too would have these spots from time to time. I wouldn't worry about whether you are doing the right thing or not. Your BS is healthy and happy, you obviously have an environment that he likes. If anyone is the King of BS it's you. You have had Jose for quite some time!

Thanks Vicki! The Elegance in the picture is about 2 weeks in my tank. I have another one that is an Aussie Elegance that isn't dead, but isn't doing that well either. I have had it for about 6 weeks. I'm learning about the needs of this coral. I'm always up for a challenge.
