Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

I do not deny the fish has a different-coloured Dorsal fin, consequently it could be another and therefore new kind ….. and there you are right Scott. I couldn't find a scientific name in any of the known professional books or lists registered. It is this what irritates me.. Thank you too Mark, great list. However, it is a great fish and very seldom. By the way, I have written up immediately one of my friends in Belgium. He breeds rare hogfish and is a known biologist here in Europe. He likewise does not know the kind, however writes these Bodianus kinds almost eat all kinds of shrimps.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Heinz. Perhaps it is a newly described species. My understanding is this species adult size is 2.5'-3.0" or 7cm. I'll keep an eye on his shrimpy tastes.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

There is alot of contradictory info on this little fish. i have been considering one for my tank. I read that they have a max. size of 5 inches. I have read that they only reach 2.5 inches as well. I have read that they will eat shrimp, I have read that they will not. At least we have you, Scott, as our official red stripy fish will a black dot, expert.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

I got this fish from ReefGoddess of The Reef Gardener. She has one in her tank and I believe it is full grown. I will ask Morgan for some of her "hands-on" experience.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

I would think that since your shrimps have been ok with the Longnose Hawkfish and the Mystery Wrasse, they will be ok with this guy.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

Thanks Vicki! When are you going to get another BS?

Reza, my Longnose and Mysterey wrasse are 3X bigger than the hogfish and they have not touched the shrimp. i guess time will tell with the new guy.

Re: Dentoid's Reeforama

High protein Mysid shrimp should do the feeding trick. Great resource Mark. My read of the comparison on page 34 leads me to believe Scott has the correct scientific name.

No matter what, it is a beautiful wrasse!
