Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

My clown keeps messing with the sand around the anenome and occassionally some gets inside it. That isn't a problem is it? The anenome doesn't seem to mind it, but I don't know why he is doing it (but I am sure someone else does, so do tell...)

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Oh man you guys are killing me here.
They are truly one of most beautiful fish out there IMO. I just wish the price was a bit less. If I do get one he will be the 2nd most expensive fish in the tank. I am scared to death that he will jump out (to his death).

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

I felt that way about the price of my Emporer Angel and my Nasa Tang. For some reason I don't even hesitate on the Bluespot. The Nasa's ALWAYS get picked on by other tangs and the fox face in the tank when I introduce them, so I have lost some of them upon introduction. Those that make it are the ones that fight back and then they all become buddies within the week. The Emporer - well, the corals can be (and some have been) food! I won't be getting as new Nasa until the Palani is gone. I may have to find a home for the Palani, he is getting too big for my 125 gallon. He is still recovering from lateral line disease so isn't too appealing to anyone. He is about 80% better though. Hopefully I can get him healed up and then find him a home.

Good luck fishing today...

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Well, the refugium is coming along slowly. Temporary tank seems to be holding its own. Last night I drew up the detail sheets for the custom refugium that lifereef is making for me. Please let me know if you see any probs. There are two diagrams. I haven't included the details on how the sump works, the overflow comes in by the refugium, and in that compartment is my ASM G-2 skimmer, a hangon Kent Marine Phosphate Reactor, the pump for the UV sterilizer which is mounted on the stand, and a large piece of live rock. The return is on the other end, and large particles are prevented from going in here by a sponge (which I am not sure I will keep). I plan on running a pipe directly from the refugium to the return compartment, so that goodies can go back in the tank.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Sounds and looks like a plan. I would try to put the water from the fuge to the return to avoid the pods taking a ride in the skimmer. Many will make it through, but I like to try and prevent it.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

The drain from the refugium will go directly to the portion of the sump that feeds the return pump back to the tank. Today I got brave and added the tree sponge and gorgonia to the tank. Had to rearrange a lot of stuff to make it fit and will probably work on it a bit more tomorrow. Within seconds the new rocks I attached them to were picked clean by the fish (you can see them in action in the second photo), but the sponge and gorgonia have yet to be touched. I devided the gorgonia so that the portion with the bi-valves is still not in the tank. I need more information on these guys. The Angel I have is supposed to eat clam mantles, so... Anyway, here are some updated photos, can you find the Bluespot? Did you notice the new anenome has taken up residence where Bluespot used to hang out? Did I mention there is a ton of color in my tank?

Beautiful pics!
You are right about the color. Lots of it. Good luck with the sponge. Mine is a great splash of color.
And yes I see bluespot in the top pic.

I'm in awe! It looks great and the Gorgonian looks like it's open. Great job on the separation. My understanding is these are fast growing, so fragging should be easy. I do see Blue Spot, thanks to Lynn's clue.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Thanks!

Fragging the gorgonia was easy! Gluing the sponge underwater was another story! For the gorgonia, I drilled a hole in the rock I glued it to. I cut a nice piece off (actually I did a smaller one too). Both of them have a nice fork to them, as does the piece that is still left. Then I trimmed away the fleshing stuff so you have just the stick part left at the base and that is what you glue to.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

I hear ya on the underwater gluing. It took a couple of tries and I ended up with a blob of glue, but like I said, it didn't take long for the gorgonia to cover it. My Long Nose hawk likes to prop himself in the gorgonia and I think his weight caused it to topple a few weeks ago and it was back to gluing. It's funny when he's in the Gorgonia it doesn't fully retract its polyps. Curious?
