Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

It sounds like something is picking on your trumpet coral and sun polyp since your water param are fine. Give them a few more days to open up and then try moving them to a different spot or covering them with a breathable container; then give it a week and see if they begin recouperating.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Thanks for the tip! The fish definitely dominate the tank space even if they aren't nibbling on it, they probably brush by it occassionally if nothing else. Do you think I am running the lights for the right amount of time?

I haven't noticed anyone picking at their heads at all, but the trumphet corals are picked right up and thrown out of the way. I've moved them (which are now several frags instead of a single piece) several times and now have them on the bottom wedged into some branch rock. They may be getting a bit too much flow and not enough light on them where they are, but will have to stay put because the fish are finally leaving them alone. The fish have all lived with my previous trumphets just fine, so I'm not sure what all the fuss has been about. There must be something really tasty on the new ones. My daughter may get most of the trumphets for her tank, in exchange from some of my pink zoos back.

I can't think of anything I can put over the sun polyps that the fish won't just grab and flip off of it. ... ... I have a critter container that I might see if he fits in and see what happens. This will also provide a bit more shade and slow the flow too. The container will look silly in the tank, but it is worth a shot.

PS - My snails are laying eggs. Couldn't figure out what it was at first, but each day there are more of them. It's nice to have some life back in the tank.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Maybe a strawberry basked if you have one or any small food grade plastic container preferrably with holes for flow.
My suns for whatever reason come out primarily at night. Then I put the half soda bottle over them and target feed.
I have never had a trumpet before so no help at all there I am afraid.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Something isn't working right. I keep losing all my posts. Oh well, will try and remember what I asked you about:

On the sun polyp, is your's in a shaded spot and if so, do you take it out each time you feed it using the bottle? I had mine in the critter basket last night and he did eat. Took him out this afternoon and placed him in a different location that is totally shaded and we will see how he does.

As for the trumphets I have had them forever and they have usually they multiplied faster than I can give them away.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Today was the day for installing the new prefilter from Lifereef. While I was at it I replaced the return flow tubing too. So, now I am down to 1 drain tube and 1 return tube. I wish I had installed it in the same location as the previous one, but where I put it makes for a straight shot to the sump. I also wish I didn't get the blue color. I thought it would match my blue background really well, but it isn't opaque and it really stands out! Hopefully with time it will become less noticable.

I get to hand over the title of Mrs. Flood-a-House to someone else. That old prefilter box sometimes would break the siphon when the power was turned off. No more (unless I am his first victim!) With the changes it sure seems like I have a lot of room in my sump! Circulation in the tank is good, even with one of the return flows removed. Cleaning of the sump itself won't happen until the real refugium gets added since I have to move it to get the refugium in.

Well, if you have been bouncing around on other forums, you also know that I acquired a few more items...

We had a pod party today, tons of them on the glass and then others delivered by mail. The real refugium tank will not be completed for a while, so I have a temporary setup for now. I got stuff from Indo-Pacific Sea Farms and overall I am happy with what I got.

My clown and anenome crab also had a welcoming party for everyone to meet their new anenome too! Even Bluespot came out to play! Hope I do good by him@!

Thanks. It's too bad I lost Nasa and Bluespot in the process. I miss them!

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Thanks everyone. Just realized my tank shots were taken before the anenome was added. I can't wait until my friends with a real camera come over.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

It's lfs day here. Any suggestions? LOL Hmm wonder how much trouble I can get into today. I may just check my secondary store and see if they still have the bluespot. You are really inspiring me and I need some sort of pick me up after my troubles with my pony.
The turn around on your reef is truly inspiring. You have done so much in a relatively short amount of time. I love looking at your thread specially for new pics.

Great tank and waaaay stupendous color! Looked for a jawfish at my LFS yeaterday. They only order them, when asked. I know you are partial to Blue spots, but do you have an opinion on yellowheaded jawfish?

Wink Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Think Blue We need a visual from JFK of you buying your Bluespot. Don't have any new pics of mine, but I like what I saw this morning! A nice glass a wine last night and a good cup of coffee this morning - so much work to keep it pretty - now I can sit and enjoy the fruit (I hope).

Miss him, but you can't stay sad, you have to move on to the next adventure: Think Blue
