Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

You've been a busy girl. Things look great. I'm going to have to use these pictures when I set up my UV. Although, I'm running out of room-yikes! Didn't get my Osmolator set up today. Having an issue of space for the reservoir. Must work that out. Happy to hear of yor accomplishments. Can you relax now?

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

I won't feel my back until tomorrow. The doctor said to keep moving and not to rest it. I just can't lift anything heavy (I think laundry counts double the weight). I will have to go into work tomorrow. I haven't been in the office since last Monday. That was not planned, I was supposed to go in Wednesday.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Today is another day and Blue says he has to move it, move it, move it... So, he moved it. He seems pretty settled in a nice place and had a deluxe breakfast (hand fed).

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

My Kordalia #3 came today. Everyone in the tank thought it was hurricane season! Should have gotten a smaller one - oh well. I ended up putting the #3 on the side where the #2 was, positioning it lower in the tank and aiming it up a bit to get keep surface movement. #2 is still in there, but not plugged in. Hopefully this will cleanup some dead spots on the bottom of the tank. Maybe I will set up the #2 to run for a short time each day, but together they really blow the socks off my aquarium.

I'm very happy with the gutter guard and UV installs! My next project will be a drain tube for the ASM - it has been working OT and I am tired of emptying it. Might do the gate valve mod while I'm at it.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

They tinker with their home most the time. Once they really like it though, they usually they hang in the same spot for a long time (usually until I do something to mess with it on accident). My current BS is moving almost every day. I think my Kordalia pump blew him clear across the tank. He is on the other side (right next to the pump) this morning.

Good morning Lorraine. I see you've had some bad weather in your tank. It's good to muss things up every now and then.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

This morning my anenome was blown into and sucked up by my new Koralia #3 pump, so it has been unplugged and I am back to using just the #2. The anenome doesn't seem any worse for wear, so I either caught it right away, or the pump doesn't damage stuff too easily.

Those who have been on the Bluespot Club thread have also seen that BS #3 is no longer with us. I am without Bluespot...So sad (but don't cry).

Tested parameters again today:
pH typically about 8.0 in the morning and 8.1 by afternoon
alk 190 ppm
calc 450 ppm
mag 1345
salinity 1.026
temp 78.7 (morning) -79.3 (afternoon)
ammonia 0
nitrite 0.05
nitrate 10-25
phos 1 ppm

And, did a another WC this morning before work (early, early, early). I haven't been to the lfs all week, can you believe that? Almost went today, but couldn't think of anything I NEEDED. That is the first time that has happened this year!

Will post some pictures as soon as I get them resized. Since Blue is gone, my angel has decided that it is his job to make sure I take good pics. Or, is he just hungry again?

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

You have really had a run of it! Luckily, you were able to save the anemone. Better luck is coming your way, I can sense it!

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Borrowed from BigAl
Quote:
Nitrites are very harmful to your critters. Even low levels cause them to be able to process less of the available oxygen in the water and prolonged constant exposure can literally cause your fish to suffocate even though the water may be highly oxygenated.
I wonder if this is going on in my tank. Nitrite is very low, but I have started watching stuff and even my cucumbers are climbing the glass and hanging out at the top of the tank, the larger fishes are gulping air sometimes. I wonder if that was my Bluespot issue (since he lived at the bottom). I'm using a new Nitrite kit and it is picking up a slight nitrite level (0.05). Didn't think anything of it, but maybe it has been going on for a while. Based on my pH level, we all know that my water is not highly oxygenated to begin with.
