Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Tank parameters are normal and so I have been dripping kalk for a few days now (about 1 teaspoon per gallon). My tank seems to like being at 10 dKH, 425 ppm calcium (without needed to add any other additive), and between 8.02 and 8.05 pH with this amount. A few things have changed since I posted about the high alk and low pH problem:

I have changed back to 100% IO (no more Oceanic mixed in with it). The IO has better buffering capacity and I seem to be able to deal with it's weaknesses.

I no longer use Salifert to test my alkalinity. I now use LaMotte. It is pricey, but there was a difference of about 2 dKH. I still use the Salifert calcium tests, which seem to provide consistent readings with the calcium portion of their Strontium test.

I am aerating the tank better. I still have another pump on backorder and will be opening up the top of the tank even more after I get a net for it.

I have a new pH probe calibrated with both the 7.0 and 10.0 single pack solutions. The bottle of 7.0 solution I was using for my pen was no longer accurate at 7.0.

Anyway, everything is finally doing what all the books say it should be doing. Well, I haven't really read ALL the books, but my head still hurts like I have. It doesn't help that I have to enjoy two Bluespots instead of one! Hehe!

I still have the Nitrates and Phosphates, but hopefully the refugium will kick that soon.

So, I still have this 25w Gamma UV Sterilizer to install. It says that it should only be installed into a GFCI outlet. I don't have one of those where I could plug it into. Don't know what to do.

Do I just have to replace the outlet itself or the entire circuit breaker?

Glad you like! No one comes to visit me and the dogs are tired of me asking them if they like my tank - hehe!

LOL! With your dogs you just might get an answer. They are soo adorable.
Ask Billy about the outlet thing. I have no idea, but he will know.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Found info online - just the outlet. I don't think I can get to the one in back of my tank without killing myself in the process. Still difficult, ponder, think, thunk, brain hurts again. Darn, it's only Monday. I've got it, skills required to change outlet - young and skinny person with long arms, must be able to tell the difference between incoming and outgoing wires (or at least right-side up from upside down)!

I already have been Bzzzzz zapped by my mantis shrimp, just imagine what real electricity could do. I guess one of these days I should also pay that electric bill so they don't shut all this stuff down.

Re: Lorraine's Rebuilding of 125 gal Tank

Hope I didn't spread my pH problem germs! Good luck on fixing that. Hum, a built in GFCI, maybe that is what mine is. It is super heavy duty for appliances and stuff, I'll have to see.
