I like free. You can always give it to someone else if you don't end up using it. Regifting-priceless!

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Which fish are you referring to on my thread?
I believe the RS logos is an Arc Eye hawkfish but I could very well be wrong.

Hey lynn, tank looks great. How long did it take before your black cap came out? I saw him for about a second yesterday but other than that nothing

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

It was a couple of weeks. We did see him dart out an grab food but he then darted right back to his home. He has also done quite a bit of digging to make the home to his liking. Kind of a pain but the fish is so wonderful we just moved the mushrooms and zoas that he was covering with substrate to let him have his way.
If he is not coming out for feeding I would be a bit concerned but I am a major worry wart and get upset if anybody doens't come out at feeding time. At least once a day I do a reef check and am not happy until I see every fish in the tank.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Yours is an Arch Eye isn't it Blueeyes? I don't have one of those but my mandarin does look somewhat similar in the face in the last set of pics I posted.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn how do you keep the mandarins alive? do you add pods? I really love them but I haven't had success with them in the past. Any ideas?

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well we tried several at the beginning with absolutely no success. The one we have now was actually given to us by someone tearing down their tank and they were giving everything to someone with a new uncycled tank. I figured he had a better chance in my system than a brand new one. He was very plump when we got him and he does go after the frozen food we feed, but I frequently see him picking off of the rocks and/or substrate. I just added a 20g fuge to the system primarily for him and my scooter blenney and have already seen and increase in pods in the display tank. He is still quite plump and I hope to keep him that way but at least I have given him a fighting chance.
I am a firm believer that they should only be kept in well established aquariums of a decent size preferrably with a fuge. I have seen for myself how difficult they can be and really want this one to thrive.
So far so good.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Great thread LYNN! The tank looks awesome!
When your ready for that manifold let me know. If you don't want to drill the tank i have an idea for an over the top closed loop.
Im glad your refugium is working out and your getting more food for the mandarin. I too had troubles a few years ago with a mandarin i got for my birthday. I look forward to seeing how yours dose.
Keep up the good work!

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well he has been there since August and is still fat so far. Hopefully he will do well long term.
I will let you (and everybody) know when I get ready for the manifold. I was actually thinking I could do it super easy and make it a closed loop like you said. Really the part I am still trying to come up with is a way to attach the PVC around the top of the tank without it being super ugly. That's gonna wait for another day though. I want to finish off the fuge this weekend and unfortunately the chiller won't be here till next week.
I will try to take some more pics this weekend since there are pages of text w/no pics.
