Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn - we need a recent FTS How are the frags doing I gave you?
Have you been to Trident lately? When I was down there I noticed they have expanded their store and its twice the size now.
I hate I didn't have a chance to get to Hidden Reef.... next time I will though!

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Tank and frags are doing fine except the ___ GSP. Thfish keep knocking it over so we got some marime putty instead of superglue this time.
It is about time for a FTS and hopefully I will get one today. We are doind water changes on all 3 tanks with our handy dandy new system. Ought to be interresting. Also got a new light for the fuge and we are re-doing the sump on the 90 since it has never been what I wanted.
Haven't been to any of the stores lately. Since I lost my job we are keeping things pretty tight right now.
We did decide to take some of my 401k money to buy a Solaris and take a mini vacation to MACNA. Oh and I got a new/used car. Kind of funny since it is exactly like my old car but with 100,000 less miles and a different color.
So much for saving money. Well really we have to wait for the checks to come in before doing any of this. Poor Frank put the car on his credit card.
Once my severance and 401k come in then I can go back to the LFS.
Anyway, pics late today ot tomorrow.

You're going to LOVE the Solaris! And it WILL save you money over time. My room stays nice and cool and comfortable now.

Looking forward to the pics!

Hi, Lynn!

Be sure to let us know how your water change system works! I'm sure you'll have a fire drill of sorts.. at least anytime I try out something new the first time that's how it feels!

I vote for a FTS as well! You never showed us your new clam!! And we need to see Sunshine!

Are you enjoying your time off at all? I hope so... you're talented.. I'm sure another job will come along, so try to get some relaxation and enjoy the sunshine <g> on your face.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well this round is only testin part one of the new system.
I filled our usual trashcan with ro/di and mixed as usual. Next time we will have the bottom container salted appropriately and do a full test. Lynn and water do not get along.
Believe it or not, I am busier without a job that with a job. No idea how that happened but the house is getting very clean. wothout hubby to distract me every 10 min I can actually finish a project.
Well that's al for now. Check back later.

Glad to hear the frags are doing well. You can slice that GSP frag up into several if you want. It may be easier to mount if it was smaller.

Way to save money Lynn!! hehe Nice purchases!

Is the ro/di hooked up with a float valve or do you have to turn it off manually?

You'll LOVE having saltwater ready at a moment's notice! You'll wonder how you ever got by without it

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

On and off manually right now. Lots of valves and stuff so we can get straight ro/di or salt or send ro/di into the salt bin and add salt. I think it will get easier in time. We just have to get a couple of longer hoses and raise the salinity (we errored on the side of caution) then we will do the other two changes tomorrow.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn,
I know you have multiply DT's I do not remember the gallonage thou. I run 2 32gal brutes, I do a 30gal WC every 2 weeks, I use abuot 30gal of RO/Di in that period for my MU/Kalk mix. I have never had an emergency to do a salt water change, and yes there is always the first time! 4 days before the WC I fill my 7gal Kalk jug, and any RO/Di goes into the salt brute and just keep makeing RO/DI and fill both, then I do the 30gal WC and leaves me with 30gal RO/DI in the other, Yes I should refill the WC ain case of an emerency, but as I said never needed it yet. But I should refill it just in case.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

My 3 tanks are a 125,a 90, and a 20.
I want to keep this much water available for extreme issues. I could do an immediate 50% or more water change as needed. We have spent several years with the trash can method, but to do all of the tanks we have to do two cans. Plus we won this high capacity RO/DI at last year's MACNA. That is really what started the whols thing.
So far it is working pretty well and I have even figured what valves send water where and if it is RO or RO/DI or salt.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well it has been a long time since an update.
Here are a few long promised pics.
Newest clam. Not a great pic. The fish were eating and swimming over it.

Fireshrimp has been around for quite a while.

Green ric from my ric phase

Maroon clown and RBTA. RBTA really unhappy. Moved last night from 20g tank to 125. Took the clown about 5 minutes to become comfy and she has never had a nem.

Neon Goby

Pink colt. Just bought this yesterday and love it. It's really prettier than the pic. It is still adjusting from the move and the color is a lot more pink than the pic shows.

Probably my favorite of the rics.

Red Corris Wrasse just moved from 20 to 125 last night.

Beautiful target mandarin.

Look at those lips. The reason I bought this one.

That should be enough for a while. Updates to other threads as well.
