I trusted you anyway but thanks for the verification. Apparently it is not that common since I could find very little info. It is a pretty cool but slow growing piece. At least in my system. Since I could find so very little information can you tell me if it is a leather or something else? I believe one of the few pieces of info I found said it was but I am just curious. Somehow I have accumulated a lot of leathers in my tank. I must like them. Well my favorite are lps but they are also the favorite of my chevron tang.
Thanks again for stopping by and for the id.

Hi Lynn....

yep ..... it is a leather coral, the family is Alcyoniidae

Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Cnidaria
Class: Anthozoa
Subclass: Alcyonaria
Order: Alcyonacea

here 2 other picture of a Cladiella brassica:

as you can see, they are all different in the colour of the polyps, but the important difference to other leather corals is the markedness of the polyps.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Since my tank is a penninsula tank I had to video from both sides. This is what we call the front since it is right as you come in the front door.

This is what we call the back. There is a bench seat in front of it for staring.

Is the tree a gorgonian? It's HUGE!!! How have you kept it alive for so long?

Your tangs are certainly very avid swimmers!

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Yes it is a gorgonian. I've had it for about 2 years but it was pretty big when I got it. I would say it has about doubled in size and I have taken many frags from it. We put it there in the beginning and since it stays happy I have never seen a reason to move it. Several pieces will go in the pony tank as hitching posts.

I am such a bad bad girl.
Guess where I went. The LFS of course. I was going to buy another yuma.
No yuma here.
A beautiful derasea about 5 inches across. I would post pics but is it acclimating and is closed right now. I am so excited I have wanted another clam. He had a gorgeous Squamosa and a beautiful golden teardrop maxima as well. Apparently he got 13 clams on monday, 6 were left today. I am sooo excited.
Now I have to go re-scape the tank to make room for it. LOL

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Thanks for stopping buy. I'm not sure why you are jealous. It has taken a long time and a lot of mistakes to finally get the system to where it is now. I wish so much that I had joined RS before getting the tank but we did what many do and got the tank. killed a lot of innocent animals, and then researched.
Anyway, enough of my babble.
Have a great day.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Guilty.

I have been buying yumas lately so I really should put up some pics of those and my new clammy.
