Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Oh I have plenty for them to do, but he wanted something that the kids would want to do. Playing with power tools worked nicely. And I got something I wanted. Of course they are only half done and it could stay that way for a while.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Thank you both. The credit for the doors has to go to the person who built the stand and Frank. If they hadn't done the first side I don't think we would have thought of it. Then Frank wanted it to be a project with the kids so that made it even cooler. They all know what they cut out so that makes it even more fun.

I've had the citron for a while. One of my very favorite fish. She spends most of her time perched on one of the clams. For some reason they don't seem to mind and don't even close. A hand over them, they close, the fish they don't. Very odd but cool to see.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

LOL You caught him.
I think he is showing his work buddies what he did this weekend. He called and asked what thread I put the pictures on.
I finally got him on RS. I should put him to work more often.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I wanted to add this to the chronicle even though it was addressed in another thread.
We found this neat looking snail in the reef. It has been there for a while but I finally was able to take pics of him. He has been identified as a Murex snail and they are definitely not good guys. Very carnivorous and bores holes in snail shells to get to the meat. Here is a pic of my guys so you know what he looks like.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Pretty but as they say, "Pretty is as pretty does!"
How large is it?
It's been eating something...have you noticed any losses in snails, crabs or corals?
The murex snail I had in my reef was found sucking the life out of a xenia colony.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

It's pretty small. Maybe a half inch from end to end. Very pretty but very spikey. When I picked it up it it had very sharp spikes. We have been watching him for a while move around the rocks but he is pretty hard to see there so we would lose him etc. I haven't noticed any destruction and the area we see him most really doesn't have any coral just corraline. Yesterday he was on the glass so I could finally get some decent pics and pull him out for even more. I do not want him anywhere near my clams so I will start looking for him tonight and hopefully fine him soon.
I am still debating about removing the black blob as well but I am divided on that one. It is soo cool but the time I saw it touching a kenya tree the tree was very unhappy until it moved on. Didn't seem to have a long term effect though. Just temporary.

Very cool designs and cutouts, Lynn and family! Excellent job!

Everything in your tank looks great!

hmmmm, how about a new project for the family. Make a horror film, staring the Black Blob and the Killer Snail.

Nice work on the doors! Frank does more than just work on the space shuttle. That clam is stunningly unique.
