Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Trying to finalize the photo inventory and got a few more captured in pics and a couple of new pics of inhabitants who have been around a while.

First up is Mr and Mrs Midas Blenney.

Next up is Mr algae blenney.

Now we have one of our favorites our red scooter blenney.

and a better pic of the engineer goby.

That's all the updates for this tank right now. Still a few uncaptured in photos but I will keep trying.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I'm guessing 5-6 now. He looks like a small eel. Has a network of tunnels on one side of the tank with at least 4 openings to dart in and out of. It is hard to get a pic of all of him since usually you just see the face poking out.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Thasnks everybody.
I have had one Midas for about 6 months. About a month ago at the LFS he had a single female Midas. Apparently they come in very rarely and in fact there were 3 people considering the fish while I was there. I was the first person to tell him to bag it so I got to bring it home.
Perhaps I will get lucky and they will breed. Meanwhile I am happy they get along and there has been no agression at all. They each have their favorite hole in the same rock but can also be found frequenly swimming around the tank. In fact adding the second Midas seems to have increased the amount of time they are both out and about. I just love the flashes of color. I have no idea if they have been bred in captivity but if I ever see eggs I will be awfully excited.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I still never had a couple Midas Blennies in which you can distinguish the genders? Can you tell me this Lynn? With pleasure I would looking for a partner for my Midas.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well I can tell you what the LFS told me. I don't know for sure if they are correct. The newer one which is supposedly the female is darker and more dusky in color while the males colors are usually much brighter. Now when the male gets upset or frightened he turns darker as well but the female stays that darker color. Not nearly as bright. My LFS is a wholesaler and he says about 1 in 50 that he gets are female. The vast majority are males.
Since I have no eggs I can't say that it is a female/male pair for certain but there is definitely a difference in color on the 2 fish.
At least they don't fight and that is what is most important to me. I'll let you know if I ever see eggs or anything I think is breeding behavior. They do swim around together but have separate holes in the same rock that they sleep in or go to when startled etc. It is really cool to see the two little faces on opposite sides of the rock.
These are fast becoming one of my favorite fish.
