Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn - By the time I am through messing in all 4 tanks, I need to change my clothes. I don't know why I don't drag a towel around with me instead of using my shirt. Life used to be so easy.

Cat - My gravel cleaner doesn't have a thing-a-ma-bob on it to start the siphon.

Dentoid - You can also put the tube in front of a pump to start the siphon!

Reb - That's William's job, remember?

I will have to try that! The only problem I see is that I don't have any PHs in my tank, only the Vortech pumps. So no concentrated jet of water. The Vortech may be too diffuse to push enough water against the tube. I will try it and let you know!

BTW, Lorraine, I don't have a t-shirt that doesn't either have holes in the shoulder from my conures or stains from my reef and/or garden! Why dirty a towel when your shirt will need cleaning anyway!

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn, I'm so sorry you are having such an unfavorable experience with the Elegance. I hope it turns around for you. We don't want an unhappy Lynn at MACNA. Keep your chin up and remember the difficulty these corals present. You tried, and that is more than others can say.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I will be fully recovered by MACNA. You can be sure of that. I am already getting very excited. I though hubby was going to say no then suddenly it changed to go ahead and do it. It took like 10 minutes before the flight was booked.
I will be probably mostly at the RS booth so please come find me.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well I woke up this morning and was following hubby to the door (have to walk by the 125 to get there) and suddenly I hear a lot of words that I can't post on RS. I take a step forward and suddnely my feet are in water. This is never a good thing. Water everywhere. Fortunately however water is still in the tank. Whoever created the first overflow has my never ending thanks.
After investigation, lots of towels and use of the wet dry we discover that while messing with the tank last night he did exactly the same thing as I did. The hose taking water from the Aquapod was not going into the overflow of the reef but was instead pouring water into the electrical cabinet then to the floor etc.
So since we both have to go to work, we cleaned up as best we could, turned off the main pump and skimmer and have NSW mixing. The tank is going to have to survive a day with just my powerheads. They are pointed towards the surface (which is now a bit lower) and provide pretty good surface agitation so it is just going to have to do for the day.
Right now all fish, corals, etc look fine and everything is drying. Lots of fans running etc,
Gee I think I am awake now.
I'll keep everyone posted on how things go tonight.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

OMG!: When are the Reef Gods going to give you a break? I'm so sorry to hear that. You are really going to need that time at MACNA, keep thinking of that! Your reef should be fine with just the PH's. I had my reef off for >10 hours with just PH's while I constructed my fuge. Everything was fine. You may want to leave the MH's off if your chiller is not functional at this time.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Bummer Lynn! The good news is that it will never happen again once you remove the nano and begin using the 90 gallon. It is a good thing you have tile and not carpeting or wood flooring.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

My thoughts exactly Doni. The tile is awesome. We'll have to wash thoroughly to get the salt out but the floor will not be ruined. Also since we are about to take the Aquapod down this should never again be a problem. There is only one fish and one shrimp in there now and I suspect they will both move to the 20g this weekend. The fish will hopefully pair with the other clown and the peppermint can go there or to the reef. Easy either way.
Oh I did forget the most fun part. I am currently on crutches so this was all happening while trying not to slip on the wet tile.
I think this week needs to be over already.

Hopefully no long term damage. Just lots of towels to wash and water to mix.
could have been a lot lot worse.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well looks like once agan we escape a bad situation with nothing more than a lot of wet towels and work.
Tank is back up and running and everything is pretty much back to normal. Lights were out by the time I got home so not sure if my leathers are pouting but they probably are. That's ok. They do that anytime something changes and I did do a pretty sudden water change so they are likely peeved.
No water on the floor this morning so back to my nightmare at work and dealing with my knee. Looks like the tank and it's inhabitants are just fine.
