Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

No I got the 4s. LOL They are in the upper area of the tank while the elegance is on the substrate so th flow does not seem to be a problem (yet). I just took my morning look at the tank (lights don't come on till 1pm) and it is VERY expanded. In fact I am going to have to move a rock or two to make more room for it. This guy is big and gorgeous.
Great idea about the shade. It was late when I got home so I just went with the lowest part of the tank that didn't get too much flow. It is almost directly under one of my 150w halides so when I re-asrrange in a minute I will build it a shade canopy as well as give it more room.
I was just so shocked when I saw it. Every elegance I have seen previously was beige/white and looked super icky. I never knew they could look like this. Now I understand why people love them. Even early morning withoiut lghts it is expanded enough that I can't even begin to see the skeleton. I am going to have to take a pic with a ruler so you guys can see how bit it really is. It has at least 6 "mouths" and is definitely sticky. Kind of like an anemone. I will try feeding it tonight or tomorrow. The lfs was feeding cyclopeze so that is what I will try first.
Man I really want this one to live. It looks so good that I know if it dies it will be my fault. I guess all we can do is try our best and I know I will do that. If the Chevron (or anybody else) is even suspected of picking on it I will move it to the clown tank with the T5 lights. I was a bit worried about water quality in that tank so went with the reef at least for now. You all know the rule. Dilution is the solution to polution. It is in my large system with my huge skimmer so the water quality tends to be better there than on the 20g though the 20 is really pretty good due to my Aqua C Remora and semi-weekly water changes.
More pics probably on Sunday. Hopefully it will still be nice and happy. So far so good but it is way early to say what will happen.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Take the size it is now, and expect it to expand more when you place it. Remember it has tentacles that pack a punch.

I had one a long, long time ago and really loved it. It just took up too much space.

You are not kidding there. It is still doing beautifully and I hope it stays that way but just because the curosity was killing me I measured it.
This size is based on it's size after lights out for about 10 hrs so it is pretty deflated though still puffy to some extent. It gets much larger when lights are on etc. It is 8 inches by 6 inches. Right now. In the dark. I just can't believe this coral. It is incredible.

Awesome new elegance Lynn! Good luck with it. I would also recommend feeding the tank DT's live. Not target feeding but just dump it in the tank kinda feeding. I am sure the coral will benefit from it.

That and cyclopeze are what was recommended by the lfs. Fortunately I have both on hand. I think I will try one or the other this evening and hopefully I will see a feeding response of some kind,

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I wish. I have just been too busy with work, the kids, and trying to get this new tank. The only recent pics are of the elegance and I posted those on one of my threads. LOL
I will definitely have some soon though since I will be taking pics of the arrival of the new tank and once the cam is out I go on a frenzy of pic taking. LOL

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Twiggy is a good name.
The plates look pretty good. Of course they did not get the attention they deserve. With the way my back is lately just getting all of that rock in the tank was a challenge. Everything is under water though and I will be adding some shrimpies tonight to kick start the cycle.
Hopefully I will have enough energy after work to at least catch me some clowns and do the clownfish shuffle (trade tanks so the newbie feels at home in the 20 and the other gets all confused ) and to do some scaping in the 125 and the 90.
Hmm Could be too much plannned. How about clownfish shuffle and find good places for the plates. That sounds much more possible except the clown part. The darned female goes to the anemone at the first sign of anything and will not come out. This includes water changes where the nem is out of water for a short time. I swear I though I killed the thing the other day trying to get her out. Guess it is time to get out mu fish trap. Now where did I put the darn thing?

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I'm getting a little confused on all your threads. I hope your elegance continues to do well. I have been doing some research on these because I'm getting one this Friday. It's small and the offspring of a tank raised elegance. It's my understanding that a healthy, well acclimated, elegance is hardy. Looking forward to some more pictures.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Sorry, I do tend to ramble about whatever tank without thinking of what thread I am on.
The elegance however is in the 125 so you have kept things remarkably straight. (Hmm you a dentist or orthodontist? ") )
The elegance has IMO been doing great. Elegance Coral says it is not so I am really not sure. It certainnly expands, is sticky, and it eats. Personally that sounds pretty good though we are talking short term results. It is on the substrate and I have a piece of cloth on the eggcrate between the halides and the elegance. I have moved the power heads and the rocks around it so that the flow does not blow it around.
I don't know the origin of the one I have but it likely came from the wild.
I will try to get new pics of it ASAP but right now I am promising nothing.
Thanks for the interest.
