Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

He is a very unusual fish. The only time he comes out of the sand that we know of is from 7:30 to 8am. Every day he is out at this time and no other. I don't usually feed the fish in the morning but because it is the only time he is out I have started feeding him and the clowns in the morning. It will be interresting this wekend to see if he is out during the day at all. So far I have been at work so he could be out all day and I don't know it. I know he is back under the sand before I leave for work.
Silly fish.
Everybody else is doing good except the brain. I moved it tonight since it was not looking happy. Hopefully it will like it's new place. It was on the sand but I moved it to the top of a rock. Hopefully it likes the additional light and becomes happy again.

Lynn's 20g clown tank

Lynn's 90g of sunshine

Every 60 seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you'll never get back.

Lynn I wouldn't place the Open Brain on the rockwork and definitely not close to Halides as they will often bleach under intense light. I would suggest you place it back on the substrate and keep it shaded from direct light until it's well acclimated.

BTW it's a beautifully colored specimen

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Hmm. Maybe I need to move it back. The place you say to put it pretty much describes it's original place but it is just not expanding there. It looked great for the first 3 days but I haven't see it expand since. Maybe I will put it back on the sand but in a less shaded area. It was getting very little light where it was.
It is probably that d#$%%@ flameback harrassing it. I just can't seem to catch him. I have 2 tanks I could move him to if I could get him out of the reef. Guess I know what my weekend project is.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Brain trouble hmm, mine's doing the same thing Lynn, my clowns are sleeping in it and I wonder if thats it, color's not so hot but its open and feeding, also wonder if the reds are not happy with intense lighting, seems better with a little shade, good luck! Steve

That could definitely be the problem as Centropyge find Trachyphyllias irresistable IME and continually nip at them. Don't forget to feed your Brain !

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Well I am trying yet another way to catch the flameback. I just put the net in the tank and I am going to leave it there. Hopefully the fish will become accustomed to the net and not run away as quickly. I am starting to think I am going to have to tear down the tank to get this fish. I will continue to feed from the net as well.
BTW I took your suggestion and moved the brain back down to the sand. I really don't want to fry it with the halides. It is back on the sand and under an overhang so it is pretty much in the shade right now. I am going to move a few things later to try to get him a bit more light without too much.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Finally, it is done. The flameback has been caught and relocated to the clown tank. I doubt I will keep him there but it was a place for now. I may take him to the lfs but I haven't decided yet. All I care is that he is out of the reef. Hopefully now my brain will start to recover and become it's usual puffed up self.

Patience Scott, that will be tomorrow (and for Lynn, tomorrow comes in about 5 days, but it's usually worth the wait).

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Yes I am a major slacker. Usually I take the pics but them something happens and it talkes me a while to post them.
Finally got him with the fish trap. One of those annoying fish too. I put the trap in the tank open for about 4 days so they would get used to seeing it there. Then one night I put all of the food they would normally get for dinner in the trap. Lots floated out though so some fish never went in the trap (including the flameback) I could have caught my tangs a hundred times each that night as they swam in and out of the trap. The sixline was in and out along with most of my fish except the flameback. I finally got tired of sitting there witht the string and went to bed. The next day when Frank got home from work he was just hanging out in the trap so he closed the door and that was it.
Very annoying. I spent hours upon hours trying to catch tha fish and he comes home from work and presto. Anyway glad he is out. The brain already looks a bit better. Hopefully it will continue to improve.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Dont feel bad Lynn, I didn't ever do my May show, and still haven't updated the Bluespot show. I am overwhelmed by all the photos I have to sort through to find the good ones. Glad you pushed me to post some, at least June's is done and I already have photos posted of my new stuff from yesterday.

Great news Lynn! Glad you caught the angel

When I was catching my chromis, all but the last one were super easy to catch. It took me three days to catch the last one.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I am very excited. Now hopefully the brain he was picking on will recover. I think I got it fast enough this time around. He seems perfectly happy with the clowns and the wrass but with that many fish in that tank I really need to get a skimmer. I would have ordered already but I am trying to find the Hydro Koralia pumps in stock somewhere so I can order them for the reef and the skimmer for the 20 both at the same time. I may give up soon though and just get the skimmer for now since everywhere I check they are out of the powerheads.
