Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Just finished reading through the thread and all I can say is fantastic ! I love the way the sump looks very clean and organized, great work Frank & Friend. Also the corals look great and I just love the Crocea, is this a Blastomussa Lynn ?

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Yes I target feed the suns. Originally I fed them mysis, but they started doing poorly so I have switched to cyclopeze. Hopefully that will be more to their liking. They are in the seahorse tank so they also have plenty of opportunity to eat the mysis that the seahorse doesn't get to immediately.
Yes that is my one and only Blasto. I really love it and it has done great in the reef.
Thanks for all of the compliments.
Oh and the friend who was so helpful with the sump/fuge is TJ. He is on a lot of other sites as Mr. Bojangles so many of you may know him from other forums. I keep trying to get him on RS but so far no luck. He has lots of knowledge to share so I will keep trying.
I will try to pick out wome more good pics today and keep uploading. I have lots of pics just never took the time to resize and upload. Not that I have this thing finally started I seem to be unstoppable. LOL
I need to upload a pic of the BIG Crocea we got from a reefer tearing down his tank, and lots of other fish and coral pics as well.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Lynn: Nice job, thanks for the fascinating thread. I noticed that orange tree sponge-how is it doing? How long have you had it and how/what do you feed it? I have had one for 5 weeks, it doesn't seem to be doing well. Are you having any success?-Scott

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I've had it about 4 months and it is doing great. I have heard that they are difficult to keep but for whatever reason mine is thriving. There is new growth in several places and in fact we are considering fragging it.
I have never fed it anything directly, but I do feed the tank rather well (read overfeed) with frozen mush, and rotate through several "coral foods" such as marine snow, and coral vibrance.
It is in a relatively high flow area and under one of my mh bulbs so it gets a good amount of light. Not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

My camera has been giving me some trouble but I will try to post a picture of mine so you can see it. It has developed sort of raised, circular craters. Not like indentations but more like a raised ring that looks like a moon crater. does your look like this?

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I have been told that when they are dying they will turn grey. Is yours changing color at all? I have not noticed any raised rings, but perhaps it is budding a new branch? Just a guess since unfortunately I know little about them.
My husband came home with it one day then all my reefing friends told me it would die and to keep a close eye on it so it doesn't polute the tank. Well, for some reason it is happy with several new branches and no grey at all. I wish I could be more help, but I didn't notice the new branches until it was obvious that they were new branches so I am not sure what they look like in the beginning.
The one thing I do know about sponges is that they cannot tolerate the air even for the briefest time. When you introduced it to the tank were you careful to keep it submerged in water the entire time? Still if it is not turning grey it is probably ok since that is what I was told to look for on mine.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

And now for something new we are trying.
Fishing with nori. We saw a fellow reefer do this with his nori clip and it looked like a good idea. The fish seem to love it and they are much less likely to be able to grab a large piece since it is always moving.
Also one of my yellow clown gobys in the seahorse tank. These guys are just too cute for words.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

Tonight I am going to try to get a better full tank shot and one of both tanks together. OOPS and I forgot a pic of how the 2 tanks are connected that I promised someone.
