Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

LOL If I did that when I get my new bigger pony tank I could add Lenney and Squiggy. That would be cute.
Wow lots of good ideas here. I don't know how I am going to decide.

Lynn and Franks saltwater adventure

Lynn's 20g clown tank

Lynn's 90g of sunshine

Sure you gonna make little saddles and bridles for them? It would make things easier for the cleaner shrimp. He loves to jump on their backs and ride around. I gotta get a pic of that some day. He did the same thing with my first ponies.

Looking good Lynn. May the Great Seahorse grant your wishes and those to remain females. At that young age it's hard to guarantee their sex.

Males have a brood pouch that connects the abdomen with the top of the tail. That is where they carry, fertilize and gestate the fry before giving birth. The females lack said pouch.

This link will show you the difference.

Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure.

I have never heard of them changing sexes before. That is pretty cool. I really don't care if I have males, females or a mix. Someday I would love to try to raise some fry but I really need to learn a lot more first, I am nervous enough with these little girls since they are so small.
They did eat in the store before I bought them and they ate again a little while ago. I'm gonna try a feeding station again in a couple of days. Maybe you can tell me how to get the mysis to stay in the station. They always floated out when I tried it with the kudas. Not a big deal though. I quickly got used to feeding them 3 times a day. They get a mix of mysis and cyclopese, but they mostly seem to like the mysis. I wish I had a video camera. It is soo cool to watch them slurp up the mysis.

Lynn, I posted to this in the other thread but will paste it here for all to see.

Lynn, they don't really change sex, but they aren't born with a brood pouch, It develops as they mature. And just like humans, some seahorses are late bloomers and develop later than others.

I had a "female" erectus that I got at an approximate age of 9-11 months old. I had her for 2 months before I introduced her to my other pair of seahorse. After 2 days in the tank with my others "she" developed a brood pouch. She had been a solitary seahorse since bought from the breeder, I rescued her from near death becasue the original purchaser didn't know how to care for her. It seems that since she had never been with another mature seahorse that there was no need to mature sexual. Once put with the others "she" matured in a matter of days.
Karma to you and the new charges.

LOL. I am talking to you on two threads at the same time.
I can't wait to watch them grow and mature. I am really psyched now. What a great day. I love my new ponies.
