| Manta Ray | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. They look really nice and I have bought corals from Dr. Mac before. I only found out several weeks ago that PEA is sooo close to me. I never even knew they were there. I went to the facility and it was AMAZING! I got the email from them and just had to pass it on to Lynn. I don't think she's checked in yet... we'll see...

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. I checked them out the day they first posted. I want to get them but right now am a bit low on funds. Plus I'm kinda scared of ordering livestock on-line. I guess I am going to have to get over it though if they still have them when my expense checks come in. I would love to have a mated pair of tank raised ponies and those look really nice. Of course BlueSpot may be mad at me if I put the ponies ahead of the bluespot, but I haven't been able to find one anyway. Everything is fine with the tanks except something is taking out my frogspawn and hammers and I don't think it is the jelley disease. At least it doesn't seem like jelley to me they just die in less than a day. I've already lost one whole frogspawn and one head from my hammer as well as half of my scrolling frogspawn. The only one it hasn't hit yet is my scrolling hammer. I am very happy about that since it is my favorite, but I am afraid I will wake up in the morning to find a dead area. Does anyone know how to frag or cut the scrolling frogspawn? There is still one area on that that seems fine. If I can find a way to cut off the dead area I am going to and hope the remaining piece will grow. Thanks for thinking of me everybody. Where exactly are they Lisa? I am actually going to be in Virginia next week. Basically right by Dulles airport. How far would it be from there? Do you know? Man now I really really want them since you said the place was AMAZING.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Lynn, I would advise staying away from a mated pair of seahorses and going for either 2 males or 2 females. I used to have a 60 gallon seahorse setup with 5 males and 2 females. All of the males rotated having 2 sets of babies every 2 weeks and there can be as many as 400-1000 babies per set. Unless you take them out and try to raise them, which we did and out of probably 10,000 one made it until adulthood, they will get stuck in your filters causing nitrates and ammonia. JMHO Matt |

| Manta Ray | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. I'm sorry... I forgot to answer your question. They are about two hours from Dulles. They basically (if your looking at a map) are between Cambridge MD, and Salisbury, MD. Dulles is about an hour (+/-) from the bay bridge, and another hour (+/) to Salisbury. It would be super easy to get there... if you don't mind the drive. Basically, get to 50 east and roll...

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Those are the cutiest little ponies I've ever seen and I can't have any. Of course you could get them. Don't be silly. As for the frogspawn and hammers, check where your flows are directed to. If that has changed from what they are used to (either less or more), sometimes that will zap them. Or, if you have added any chemicals differently (more concentrated to where they are located). Or changed something in how you are feeding them. I have decided that mine do not like something about how a filter feed them and I have lost two heads from trying. They seem to get food with the fish, so I'm not doing that any more. However, I am going to have to move my zenia already, as I have noticed that at night it folds over towards the frogspawn. So far, neither is damaged, but both are growing. Have you checked stuff like magnesium and strontium lately?

| Sunshine Reefer ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Well, Aquaman seems to be advising me against it. I'll have to think about it some more and read some more before I order them. They are so very cool and I would love to try to raise the fry, but am afraid I will get too upset if/when they don't make it. As for the lps. I haven't moved them or changed the flow. Plus it seems to be a pretty random attack on most of my lps. So that shouldn't be it. I don't target feed them but overfeed the tank and the remaining heads look great. Magnesium was good, but I don't test for Stronium. I do a 20% wc every other week with TM Pro Reef so it should be good but perhaps yet another test kit is in order now. Thanks for the ideas blue. Thanks for the directions Lisa. I probably won't have enough time this trip, but I am up there 5 or more times a year so perhaps the next trip I can add an extra day and go check them out.

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Regarding the frogspawn and hammer issue you're having... All are dieing except for the scrolling hammer. Hummm.... Are the 'dieing' corals in your main display (not the nano)? Is the healthy scrolling hammer the coral that the clown lives in? If you answer YES to both of those questions, a fish is eating them. The clown protects the one that she is in and the others are becoming a dinner for someone. I know you get tired of hearing this.. but keep an eye on that angel. Remember the candycane that wasn't doing well but is now because you moved it to the nano. FWIW, In the past I have removed a regal tang and a powder blue tang because they were eating my corals. So you just never know...

| Tridacna maxima ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Corals for dinner, sounds delicious! Bad fish, very bad fish - go to your room and stay there until you can behave! My strontium was very low even with my frequent WCs, but I run carbon. I would think that if it was strontium it would die back slower or just not thrive. Hope you find an answer soon.

| Over Achiever | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Hey Lynn, If you have some time when you're in Virginia, you may want to check out The Marine Scene. http://www.marinescene.com/index.shtm It is located very near the Dulles airport and is an awesome LFS that I frequent. You may not purchase anything, but it could be a nice respite and help to ease the separation anxiety from your tanks. I live in Northern Virginia about 20 minutes from Dulles. If you need anything while you are here let me know. Hope you figure out what is going on with the corals. |

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. lynn by all means if you want to raise the fry go ahead. At one point we had 4 diffferent takes for different stages of seahorse growth. But redis are the hardest fry to raise because they cant hitch at birth, kudas and erects can hitch at birth so they would be easier. Matt |
