| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Well I am still in Phoenix but so far things are going well except it is really cold for this Florida girl. There has been snow the last 2 days though not where I am. I too have a mix of sand and CC and while I think they prefer sand mine seem to be doing just fine. All of mine are in the display ATM. I may take one from the display or buy another one or two for the fuge. Right now I have one small one in the 24g and one large two small in the main display. They have never done anything with my aquascape but my big guy will half burry himself in a place and stay there for days. I have thought he was dead repeatedly only to find him in a new spot the next morning. No I have learned to just let him be unless it gets to a week.

| Over Achiever | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Thanks! I'm looking for something to help keep the surface of my gravel clean as well as turn the sand. It snowed 2" here in Northern Virgina this past weekend. BRRRRRRRRRR. I was born and raised in Florida and have never really ever gotten used to this cold weather. |

| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Thanks for the compliments everyone. I really did try to get as many specs and pics in the thread as possible. I know I appreciate it on other threads so I tried to model it from the ones I really like. I am still in Phoenix (till Thurs afternoon), but just spoke to home and while my pony is still on an unexplained hunger strike (more and more thin daily and still not eaiting the mysis or the mysis cyclopese mixture) he is still alive so there is still a chance he will pull through though I do consider it unlikely. I still want a pony tank and am now considering Redi or Erectus. Does anybody have any recommemdations or opinions on either species? All I have had so far have all been Kudas, so since they seem to be a particular problem I am ready to try some different ones though I do want to keep to one type only since they are in a 24g tank for at least now. Depending on the size I can't see more than 4 max in the current tank. More likely I will get a pair. I keep trying to talk him into a 55 or better for the ponies but right now it is just not in the bank account. Maybe for my anniversary which is relatively near tax time. Anyone in Florida who wants to get rid fo a tank, lights, and stand please let me know. I will plumb it into the main systen so that is really all I need and am hoping to come up with a good deal on a used tank to do the fiinal convincing. ![]() Hopefully I will be able to resize and post some pics tonigt or tomrrow. He got some great shots including full tank, system plumbing with the chiller and how we currently have the 2 tanks connected. Comming soon anyway. I would say Friday at the latest since I have a nice long flight to choose and resize pics. Then it is just posting which is the easy part. ![]()

| Manta Ray ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Before you buy your Bluespot, I just started wondering... Is there any chance you are losing the scooter and pony to an infection or parasites? How are your other bottom dwellers doing - healthy and happy? If so you can join the Bluespot club Detnoid and I are starting.

| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Well I am pretty sure we figured out what is wrong with the pony. Yes he is still alive but I honestly do not know how. When we redid our plumbing there was a time where we were getting lots of microbubbles. Mostly in the reef but some in the seahorse tank as well. Seahorses are extremely suceptible to air pockets so that is likely the problem. We are now trying to massage his stomach and hopefully release the bubble since he has such a strong will to live. As long as I see the gills moving I will not give up hope entirely though I am certainly not counting on him making it at this point. As to the scooter blenney, I have no idea whatsoever, but none of my other bottom fish are showing any ill effects. He just got thinner and thinner and then was gone. The only thing I can come up with is the addition of a mandarin a couple of months ago. Perhaps there was just too much competition for the pods even though I saw both fish eat frozen on a regular basis as well. Now that the fuge is up and running w/a DSB and macro with live pods added to seed it I should no longer have any problem with pods in the tank. In fact they are currently everywhere. We'll see what happens at the lfs today. You know I will post if I join the club even if I have to wait a bit for him to settle down before taking pics. Actually I think I just came up with a really good plan. If I buy him I will temporarily cover the tank with window screening until he seems stable. It will cut my light some but hey there are cloudy days in a reef right? Plus then I won't have to worry about him making a spectacular jump through the eggcrate. It always amazes me when a fish gets through the eggcrate. What precision.

| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Well it does help to confirm my suspicion. It was the only thing I could come up with as far as a change goes that would effect him and only him. I guess that means I can't replace him then. Since the mandarin does eat frozen and I now have an awesome fuge I may give it another try but not for a while at least. I want to be sure the fuge is fully established. If I am still seeing tons of pods with the mandarin I may give it a 2nd go since the entire system is actually about 180g if you count both tanks, the sump, and the fuge.

| Regular Guy Moderator ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. 180 gallons should be sufficient with a healthy pod population and mysis supplementation.

| Golden Moray ![]() | Re: Lynn and Frank's saltwater adventure. Thats awesome that your mandarin is eating frozen!!! My scooter is doing great so far. My advice is to let the scooters stay with your LFS for about a week and then ask them to feed it frozen and get the one that eats. IME i have had 2 and both readily accepted frozen mysis. Let us know how it goes Matt |
