| Limpet | Re: Joe's 65 Gallon Aquatic World April 19th, 2007 Day 19: Placed an Aquaclear 50 sponge in the bottom of my DIY overflow/bubble difuser for my skimmer output. I've attached a photo of my handywork. As you can see; the clear Lee's Speciment container hanging on the back of the sump, with my AquaC Remora then hanging on top of it. ![]() |

| Limpet | Re: Joe's 65 Gallon Aquatic World Wednesday, May 09, 2007 Received two Hydor Koralia #2's. Currently have two Maxi-Jet 900's. This weekend will be an 8 gallon water change, along with replacing the Maxi 900's; scrubbing glass of algea, cleaning of sponges, etc.. etc.. etc.. With summer approaching, I will also remove one of the heaters that is in my display tank. Probably don't need both of them. The one on the left end comes on not very often. I assume that is because the return is there, so theoretically, the water is probably a little warmer, due to the water movement. Last week my electric blue hermit decided he wanted a bigger shell, so one of my snails lost its life. This little electric blue has turned out to be quite the little bastard. I guess I could possibly throw him down in the sump. |

| Over Achiever | Re: Joe's 65 Gallon Aquatic World Looking good Joseph! I recently added 20 Margarita snails to my tank and not three days later did I see Blue Legged hermits inhabiting some of the shells. I'm not a member of the crabs are evil society. Just replace the snails as their numbers dwindle. Hermits are excellent house cleaners. |

Thanks for the advice. I guess sometimes we fail to realize that worse stuff happens out in their real habitat: the ocean. I'm sure right at this moment a little snail or small fish is losing its life. So, by bringing the ocean world into our living rooms, this is just part of the unfortunate results that sometimes may happen. | |

| Limpet | Re: Joe's 65 Gallon Aquatic World Did some water tests; everything came out great. I'm actually quite suprised. Thursday May 10, 2007 Day 40: Temp: 83 Degrees Salinity: 1.024 pH: 8.4 Ammonia: 0 Trites: 0 Trates: 0 Temp is kind of high. I'm going to get another thermometer and check it out. I've noticed these Coralife digital thermometers are notorious for being way off. A user on RC posted something about how he had two of them and they were 10 degrees from each other. That is ridiculous! pH is finally up to 8.4. Is this something that happens once the tank has been established for a while? It was only reading about 8.2 for the first month or so and now seems to be right where I want it. Only thing I've done recently was add some macro to the fuge and been running the fuge light from an opposite cycle of my main tank lighting. |

| Limpet | Re: Joe's 65 Gallon Aquatic World Removed one of the heaters; cleaned the overflow boxes; removed the Maxi-Jet 900's and replaced with the Hydor Koralia #2's Moved the overflow more toward the middle of the tank. The corner location where it was below was more restricted on one side since it was up against the glass. This location should work much better. I also removed the Penguin 350. I was mainly using it for mechanical filtration, but now everything has cleared up with all the die-off of concern. I went through a dozen of the filter pads, but it was well worth it. Here is a current full tank shot. The lawnmower blenny has created himself a little hill of sand in the middle/front part of the substrate. I guess he didn't like it totally flat. ![]() ![]() |
