40 gallon freshwater reef

ok.

i set up a 40 gallon in my bedroom with the intention of doing a FW setup, with plants... i'm building a c02 system, so the plants are coming, but i wanted to get some input (i know some of you guys have done great FW setups in the past, or currently) on stocking.

i'm trying to go for as much diversity as possible. i've already found some really cool japanese algae eating shrimp. basically, i don't want to do just fish, i want to have as much of a range as possible.

anyway, here's my setup.

~40 gallon (36x12x21-ish) AGA
Eheim Canister filter
Maxijet 600 (do i even need this?)
130W of 10K power compacts (any colored supplementation you guys can suggest?)
50W stealth heater
Eco-complete/earth rocks substrate (~3")
Custom C02 setup (got the tank/regulator, diffuser being built)

i want a great community setup! help!

PS. seeing wit's monster pirhana, i figured posting this was ok. something a little different. it's in the reefing spirit! :-D i hope it's ok, if not mods, move it wherever it should be.

Re: 40 gallon freshwater reef

There are a couple of FW clams that are suitable for aquariums, but they are boring and dull. There are also a few amphibians, most notably, the dwarf African clawed frogs. One tip, if you really want everything to thrive, choose species of plants and animals with similar pH requirements. There is alot more variation in pH and hardness needs for FW.

Re: 40 gallon freshwater reef

pics pics!!

nothing much to look at... i'm still waiting on the PC bulbs (the retro is the mass of wires in the 2nd pic) and the hood. it's not going to totally cover the tank, just a way to mount the pc retro.

i'm going to pick up some driftwood this weekend, and maybe a few larger rocks for the bottom... then some livestock. wooo! i gotta decide on teh fish though. i have no idea what to put in.

the thing i love about this tank is is practically SILENT. nothing. you can't hear ANYTHING. i love it.
