| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! much better...i think the rock is done....I did 1/2 water change last weekend and 1/2 this weekend. I added a lil vinager (8oz) diluted with water ona slow drip to lower ph. Got the idea off an article buy that popular dude..(can't remember his name). You won't believe how hard it was to find an article to LOWER ph instead of raising..lol Ph dropoed .3 and everything instantly looked back to normal. I did however go thru another one of those "new" tank brown cycles if you will.... My lil sun polyps (tubestrea) or whatever are opening again after a week and a half and i finally got to feed them again. I did loose my sand sifting sea star. I now have an aptasia outbreak ( after a month of nothing new go figure) that my peppermints can't seem to keep up with. contained to 1 rock but the same rock my polyps are on. My dragonet (scooter blennie) is happy as hell snacking all over the place. And a general sence of peace falls over everything... So all in all things are looking good just waiting, saving to buy some MH lighting so i can really kick it into gear...

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! Well Last night was our 5 year anniversary so we headed to the "big" city of Green-Bay and a nice little coral shop i knew of. Happened to have a sale buy 2 get 1 free so I picked up some small ditty's i thought i could handle considering my lighting at the moment. Here's what I picked up! Along with an up-dated aquascape shot.... ![]() Some type of colony polyp. Would appreciate any info on these. ie Scientific name, feeding habits light req. They look pretty common. ![]() A Xenia not sure what type. Also is that Aptiasia growing with it? Shoudl I remove it? And if so, how? ![]() Some Mushrooms, again any info is appreciated... ![]() I know your not supposed to buy without researching. But it was spontanious and I really don't have anything in my tank yet. I hae a friend who i can pass it off to as he has a better established reef with full halide lighting if necessary. Just looking for thoughts and input!!! I appreciate all comments as always!! And thanks for helping me through all of it!! Man this is going to get addicting....

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! Remove/chisel the aiptasia immediately! The same goes for that green bubble algae (valonia)! Get rid of them both even if you have to remove the rocks they are on, scrub them, then dry them out in the sun.... Two notoriously bad hitchikers that will run rampant in your tank within a short time. ..ohhh.. nice aquascaping! ![]()

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! Jorgens did you rescape ? what happened to the ledges ? I agree with Doni get rid of bubble algae/aiptasia before they begin to proliferate the aquarium especially new setups which tend to be higher in dissolved nutrients.

The spewed crap all over 5 min after i put the rock back in. I scrubbbed it well...obviously not well enough... And the peppermints may eat it. I've noticed my lil "aptasia" farm of new grotwhs is totally gone....they may just have to find it yet...

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! WEll the peppermint seemed to have found the aptasia....however i think they found the xenia right along with it as all the polyps are missing. Not sure if they "snacked" on them or the dying aptasia released something that stressed them too much. I'll just have to wait and see if anything will grow back.

| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! My xenia are very particular about any changes in the tank. If they are on the rock you scrubbed they may be very unhappy indeed or even all the movement around them can stress them. Don't give up easily on them though. I thought mine were completely dead and they came back from a small stump on the rock. Hope yours return as well.

| Scopas Tang | Well, to help my alge issues I headed to the "big" city LFS and picked up a couple tangs. I wanted to get 3. 2 Yellow Tangs and a Naso Tang. But they didn't have any Naso's so I went with 1 yellow tang and 1 scopus tang. Aclimated them for 2 hours on a drip, put them in the main tank with lights off for an hour. When they came back on i added some brine, mysis shrimp soaked in garlic. I grabed some Garlic right away to to help PREVENT an ich issue before I even see it. Well 30 min after lights on they seem happy as can be foraging on lil bits of hair alge and that red slime crap on my substrate! W00t Am I thrilled... I'm hoping I may be able to add a Naso in the near future as it is a different type of Tang. I heard it may be possible in a 180g system so we'll have to see. I know my son would LOVE 1 "huge giantic fish" as he put's it. We'll cross that bridge when the time comes. for now I'm just thrilled to have some life in the tank. ![]() ![]() ![]()

| Sunshine Reefer | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! hope you have good luck with the tangs. Being of the same body style you may run into problems but adding them at the same time was a really good move and may help lots. Best of luck!
