| Reef Lobster | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! that scooter needs a well established tank, unless he's eating frozen... you won't have any pods as of yet. they are technically not blennies, but dragonets. i have one, and it took 2 weeks to get him on frozen, but i also had an established tank. i hope he does well, your tank is definitely big enough to support him, just not until it's established just keep an eye on him!

| Reef Lobster | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! nope... well actually... try to get him on mysis or something else... brine has litte to no nutritional value... but that's great he's eating a lot. i personally, like marine cuisine with a little garlic for picky eaters... i got my scooter on it, and i also got my new pink spot goby on it, when the guy at my LFS (who is no slouch at husbandry) couldnt' get him to eat anything other than plankton and a little cylcopeez.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! In the future i was thinking about a "homade" recipie closley followed in Marine aquarist handbook. A little raw shrimp, clam, vitamines, and ruffage of a tang type. I didn't want to start this untill i had more alge grazers. But you get the vitamines and they actually soak into the food. I was also thinking about adding brine to that as well. But for thosrt term ill se if the LFS has any mysis. Thanks for the tip!!!

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! Well today i can add the rest of my rock. Prob. take into tomorrow to complete anything. Any tips/suggestions at this point? I'll be checking thread at break time!!! lol. I also did a nitrate test. Last week at 35 mg/l today down to 5 with no water changes. I have 2-4" beach sand in main with 4-5" in refugium. I'd have to say the dsb theory is workin out for me. Can't wait to get aquascaping!!!! w00t!!!

| Wannabe Guru ![]() | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! I really like the scaping and the shapes but the problem is porosity of the rock, it just doesn't match the indo-pacific rock as far as surface area for bacteria, but will work. I agree with Lynn I would definitely add some more live rock from different zones so you can add more bio-diversity to the tank. What do you have for flow ?

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! aproxx 1000g an hour. thru sump. Since it's see thru i don't want any powerheads in. Excellent turbulance in the middle and in front of jets. average rest of tank. The porosity sems to rival the LR i already purchased. the oyster shells are or appear more porus than the LR. and MANY times more nooks and holes and things. Althought im not a geoligst. it appears this way. You can hold it up to a jet and amost feel the water shoot thru.....almost. Ya id like some more LR but the LFS had junk and shipping sux. you never know what your getting after someone picked thru all the goodies already. Grabed my first tubeworm and some caluprea*sp (alge) for the refugium last night. something to help house all those lil bugs runing around.

| Midas Blenny | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! It looks really great. Nice and inexpensive. Im sure your rock will do great... hell Ive seen people sink ships to help support a reef. Looking forward to watching the progress and welcome to the addiction.

| Scopas Tang | Re: Jorgen's First time with a 180g! WEll my dyi rock spiked my ph to over 9. All you diy'ers learn from it!! lol. I'm in the process of a huge water change and hopefully this will help. I lost my sand sifting star. =( It was finished curing in the freshwater and my understanding was it was then ok to add to tank. wrong move..the saltwater must have triggerd additional curing process. I'm just looking forward to stable parameters so i can stock a few things....patience is a must...and is something i always seem to be short of. Talk about an education!
