Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

Acanthurus

Convict (Acanthurus triostegus), 10"
Whitecheek Tang (Acanthurus nigricans), 8"

Both are from the same genus as you said AM3680, so they would compete for the same food. The White Cheek is more aggressive than the Convict, but may be more hardy. The Convict being less aggressive gives you more options for a homoginous reef fish community. I loved the persomaliy of my Convict!

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

yeah it was a long drive

thanks for the info on the conict tang and whitecheeks

My tanks been up and running for about 3 days and there has been no ammonia spike no nitrates and no nitrites. pH is at 8.2 all other perams are good. Have live rock in and am putting in sand today. When would you advise putting some livestock in?

Thanks
Matt

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

I got a better update now, didnt get as many pics as i would have liked but here they are.

That 90 is no more

One of two 20 gallon holding tanks. There were about 4 coral deaths and 2 fish deaths on this trip. Not to bad considering they went halfway across the country.

I think i had enough skimming probably overkill but i did it for security

400 watt pendant on a 20, I think I had enough light. Thats 20 watts per gallon!

Heres the stuff that I am using on the new setup:

I will be using the 2 400 watt pendants on the 90.

I still havent found the temp probe

And this pic has nothing to do with this setup but i thought i would throw it in.

That is my first attemp at a salt water tank about 2 and a half years ago. That tank cracked.

Anyways I have a couple questions.
1. How high should I hang the lights above my tank?
2. I currently have a Blue tang, 2 orchid dottybacks, 2 percs, and a bangaii. I would like to add a Kole tang, 2 skunk clowns, and possibly a lepord or mystery wrasse. Would there be any problems with this stocking list?
3. I would like to add a coral banded shrimp, I currently have a Blood shrimp and am going to replace my cleaner shrimp I had to give up. Would the Coral Banded cause problems with the other shrimp?
4. At some point I am going to set up somewhere around a 40 gallon Display fuge. What kind of lights do I need to use? Are flourcents fine? What kind of critters can I put in there?

Anything else you guys can think of that would make my system better would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

Glad to be back in buissness, I will keep you posted on things that are happening with the tank.

Heres some big news, the 20 gallon tanks started going way down hill so I decided that I needed to move the stuff into the 90.
Ammonia 0
Nitrate below 10
Nitrite 0
pH 8.2 salinity
1.025

In the tank I have:
Various corals
a blue tang
bangaii caridnal
2 clowns
2 orchid dottybacks
So far everything seems to be going well. I was planning on taking it slow but i guess that plan failed. Any advice you could give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Matt

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

Everything is goin pretty good. SInce the last update i have added the 400 watt MH's to the tank Since things have been moved out of the 20's there have been 0 losses.

I will get a pic update tommorow.

I have a question. WIth euphillia, frogspawns, torches, and hammers, If they touch does it stunt their growth, or will they release toxins in the water for space issues? I plan on having an euphilla bed with all those species touching. Will this be a problem?

Thanks
Matt

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

I have several varieties of euphyllia colonies touching without any issues at all. They do not sting eachother but can kill most (if not all) other corals.

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

Sorry kinda late on the update, been busy with moving in and stuff. I ordered 200 snails, 30 red reef crabs, and 50 nassarius snails from ReefTopia, not all for my tank by the way, some will be going in my parents 210 once they get that setup. I must say that they have excellent stuff, and great prices as well. Everything came in alive with no problems.

As far as the tank is concerned things are going good. Before the move I had recieved a rose anenome for free. It has survived the trip and is now finally coming out. Heres a picture of it.

I have only added one new coral to the tank thus far. It is a green digitata. I got a small piece of a huge colony for only $10.

Here is pics of the existing stuff that has made the move.

Is there a difference in being agressive between pink skunk clowns and orange skunk clowns?

Matt

Re: The 90 gallon Road Trip

Thanks about the rose, although i am kinda worried about it. Its not eating, maybe im not feeding it the right stuff? Im feeding it frozen mysis. Should i be feeding it something else? Also how soon after it is healthy would you put some skunk clowns in to host in it?

Thanks Lynn, but i have to say that if i could do it all over i would have taken one or 2 corals and 3 fish. It was a real hassle having to take that stuff all that way. But i am happy with how much made it.
