My 90 gallon reef

I have just hit the 9 month mark. I of had to go through the typical 2 months of damsels, live sand, and live rock. Then had to wait for the cured live rock, to actually finish its curing and nitrate leaching stages, "another 2 months". Then I went through a few equipment modifications, and additions. At that point, I was then able to start slowly stocking the tank.

I have been doing reef/fish tanks for many years. I had never done a reef tank to the scope in which I am attempting at this point. I have been very patient and diligent maintaining and trying to improve wherever I can. I pay attention to any slight changes, being sure to research any unknowns. Everytime I have questions for the people on this site, I have always gotten many helpful ideas and suggestions. Enough of my babbling on, so here is a listing of my equipment and inhabitants of the tank.

90 gallon glass tank 48" x 24" x 18"
Home made oak stand 40" tall
Home made top/ light reflector
PM "precision marine" 40 gallon sump.
ARCTICA chiller 1/10 hp
Korallin calcium reactor model # 1502
Coralife UV sterilizer 18watt
Coralife light assemly w/ 2 x 250w Mh 2 x 96w actinic 4 moonlight led's
Euro reef recirculating protien skimmer RC-135
120lbs live rock
6" live sand/ gravel mix
Aqua controller 2 pro running it all

Fish:
Purple tang
Powder brown tang
Blue tang
Copperband butterfly
Yellow wrasse
2 percula clowns
Flame angel
5 misc damsels
Watchman goby
sand sifting goby
yellow spot goby
orange spot goby
Orange striped goby
3 cleaner wrasses
2 6 line wrasses

Corals and Inverts:
Sun coral
green star polyps
misc colored zoas
colt coral
red chili coral
blue sponge
purple disk coral
candy cane trumpet corals
2 green tipped leather corals
Anchor coral
Green moon
Flat brain coral
2 Giant Anthelia
Kenya tree corals
green acropora
3 cleaner shrimp
3 pepermint shrimp
2 Maxima clams
25 snails
20 or so crabs

I believe that is all, I shall update the list if I find anyone in the tank I have forgotten about.

Very nice equipment list you have! Sounds like you have certainly invested wisely.

Your fish bioload seems very, very high. I'm curious to know what your nitrAtes testing at? How much of a water change do you perform weekly?

Beautiful Suncoral!!

Re: My 90 gallon reef

I know, I do love fish. Most all of them are definately on the smaller side. But to answer your question, my nitrates are at absolute zero. I do weekly water changes, about 15 gallons per week. But the greatest factor has been the Euroreef skimmer model RC-135, it is an absolute jewel of an item. I have never seen a skimmer so efficient in all my life. I also like to keep a high nutrient load for the corals, so I have found with small weekly water changes and an insane protien skimmer, the nitrates are zero.

And thank you for the compliment. It does seem to be all coming together.

Re: My 90 gallon reef

No thank god he does not. I watched him every waking moment for the first 2 months with him. Keep him well fed and fortunately he does not bother anyone.
