My 29 gal reef

Hello RS folks, this is my 29 gal Jaubert style system (no skimmer or sump). I started it in August of 2005, so less than a year setup. but the sand bed was from a friend's broken down tank of 3 years. So i got a huge break there. It has around 50lbs of live rock(i think?). I run two small powerheads and an airstone to add some sweet random-like turbulance. Lighting is 3x 65wt PC's. As for corals im getting close to the limit w/ 35 or so different sp.'s. Ill give a list later on. fish are : hippo tang (ich magnet), yellow matchman goby, and 6line wrasse. inverts: cleaner shrimp, blood shrimp, and one fuzzy crab id love to feed to a mantis shrimp (constantly Flips, knocks, pushes corals over). not sure how i can catch him, any sug's? I'm a firm beliver in the importance of water changes, i do 10 gals weekly, allways, so theres no need to supplement anything IMO. Plus im lazy so i rarely test anything. Please feel free to ask ANY questions or add ANY comments.

Re: My 29 gal reef

Wow! Nice set up!
As far as catching the crab. Some people have had success with putting a piece of shrimp into a glass and place it in the tank in such a way that the crab can go in but not crawl back out. Slightly tilted.
Good luck catching him.

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: My 29 gal reef

Looks great! Does that airstone create much salt creep? A hippo tang?? I see an upgrade in your near future

Re: My 29 gal reef

I went to a glass cutter and had a full length / width piece cut w/ 1/2 inch to spare. Then i used a regular plastic ummm... tank thingy? to custom fit the wires n hose threw and I'd say I clean a quarter size fleck off every two weeks. I love the hood design because it doesn't have that annoying baffle to block out light and I have almost zero evaporation.
As for the the tang I realize it is only a temporary thing. I'm currently cycling a 75 gal but I don't intend on keeping him (Ich magnet). I Will be trading to a buddy w/ a 120.

Re: My 29 gal reef

My girlfriend stole it for the weekend in LI. She was an hour away and when I called and told her to turn around! She didn't listen... or understand a word I was saying...women.
Well the ones into fish are OK.

Re: My 29 gal reef

Better be careful there
As long as she brings it back we're all good.
The last time my husband borrowed my camera, he left it in the hotel and it got stolen. Now I have no camera. Not really his fault, but major bummer.
Well b-day in less than a month and he knows that is what I want.
Peace
Lynn
