cioutlaws 120gal.

I actually didnt know this column was here till today, So I will have to catch up fast.

I had a 55 gal tank that was set up in December & shortly after I knew I was going to outgrow it. So since it hadnt been set up long I figured no better time to upgrade.. right? for the last 4 months of planning & building I didnt add any more fish to keep the move easy & not take a chance of any casualties. At the time I had a 6 line wrasse & a percula clown & 6-8 different corals. The main thing I did not like about the 55 was I can veiw my tank from 3 sides & it was just to narrow to landscape rock in the center. I was limited to length so the best choice would be a 48" 75,90 or 120. I really liked the 48x24" footprint of the 120 so thats the route I went.

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

Here is the Tank placed behind the old 55 gal. This is going to be a 1 day change over.

I ordered the AGA tank from a LFS with dual over flows, both on the same end because as i said before the tank is veiwed from 3 sides like a room divider so this will give it a clean look.

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

I didn't know you could get them with the overflows on the end.
Looking forward to seeing the change over.
How much more rock are you going to be adding?

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

Here is some of the plumbing going to the 40 gal. sump.

Electrical with a switched outlet for pumps & I also installed a flouresent light for the cabinet. I broke a outlet cover so 1 is missing for now.

Here is the sump in operation with a Coralife 125 skimmer.

here is the door I put on the end with shelving for supplies & access to the Coralife 1200gph pump

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

I had to custom order it with the overflows on 1 end & it took about 6 weeks.

I had 60 lbs. in the 55gal. & Im going to add another50 lbs of base rock & 40 lbs of live rock.

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

I started the change over at 2pm Thursday & had fish corals, 60 lbs of live rock & of course water, & the sump plumbed & running done by midnight. I have to admit doing a 1 day turn around takes a lot of planning & energy....I am beat!

Here are some pictures taken today(Sunday) with all the rock( about 150lbs)

from the south

from the end, taken from the bar in the kitchen. will be a great way to wake up & eat breakfest!!

from the north

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

I also upgraded my lighting to a Coralife Aqua pro with 2 175W HQIs from my 260W PC lighting.

You can also see in the previous pictures the bottom of the tank is right at the top of the couch back. that was another thing i didnt like about the 55G, you could not see the bottom 4-5" because the stand was too short.

Well done!! Wow... that 120 drawfs the 55 gal!!! It makes the 55 look like a nano~~

I really like your set up and how you organized the sump area... great work!

i say this as my best advice to a beginner. do not,,,and i repeat,,,,,DO NOT look at my tank as an example....i have a well practised eye, decades of experience, and a trunkload of failures to allow me to force the issue and get away with things most cannot~

Re: cioutlaws 120gal.

Im a pipefitter so I guess the plumbing was pretty easy for me I did a lot of planning & measuring to get everything to fit right. I didnt get the tank till wed afternoon so i had to trust AGAs measurments.

wood, I thought the same thing about dwarfing the 55...the 120 realy looks big after you get it home, but its growing on me.

Witful, I only have mostly frags & a couple fish but I will get some close ups later today. Unless you wanted close ups of something else?

Thank you for all the great comments, having this site for information has made this soooo much easier. I got many great ideas from threads like this one.

I love the 3 way view with the plumbing on the side. ....oh....I wish I would have seen this before I drilled my tank! Very nice!

This is the route I'm thinking about going too. How's your temp?

Ditto on the neatness! Looks terrific
