After the tank was ordered I had a thought of a center overflow but it was too late & was told AGA wouldnt do it I think Oceanic would but it would have been 50% more $$$.$$ But I like the end overflows fine, just takes up some of the length of the tank. | |

| Elegance coral | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. This is kinda off topic but... I added some live rock that was cleaned & put in a tub of water for a couple weeks. Water testing showed good in the tub. I added this rock(40lbs) to the new tank on day 2..I am now having a small Ammonia spike .50-.75 & a bit of Nitrites. Should I leave it alone or are water changes in order? Would Prime or some other chemical help get through this? How about a bacteria culture to help boost it. I am pretty sure the live rock has caused the spike as I did a test minutes before I added the rock with perfect parameters & 6 hrs later had ammonia. Fish seem fine...Corals look ok except my Xenia has shriveled up & not come out on day 3(lights have been on for 4 hrs), I also noticed it was spewing something...looked like smoke under water. Possibly could have been something that is under it that I can not see. The Xenia has looked good the first 2 days. I have seen Spegettiworms spew before. Are corals effected my Ammonia, nitrite ect.? |

| The Wand Geek was here. ;) ![]() | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. I have not cycled new live rock in a loooong time... That is strange that it didn't show the beginnings of a cycle in the 'tub' during the 2 week period... maybe it should have stayed there a full 4 weeks? Although your main display is loaded with nitrifying bacteria and the cycle will probably be a short one, I would do a water change then add a bacteria culture just to be safe. Spewing?? Maybe a hitch hiker worm or shrimp???

| Rabid Wolverine Reefer ![]() | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. prolly was the rock, stronger flow in the tank leached out the "still curing" stuff inside the rock. as long as there is something left of the xenia, it may come back,,,delicate yet hardy critter. all corals hate ammo, trites and high trates. i see waterchanges in your future~

| RS Sponsor | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. first the tank looks great and very clean install good job! what are the dimensions of the tank? becouse it doesn't look like a traditional 120g size most 120's are 24x24x 48 and yours looks tall and thin. but i must commend you it is very obvious that you took your time to plan it out....

| Elegance coral | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. Ive been having a problem with poor flow..mostly because all the sump water is returned all at one end of the tank & trapping proteins ect. at the surface on the oposite end from the returns. I did not want power heads so here is my idea im trying. basicly it is a 3/4" loop around the preimeter of the tank with 6 Hydor rotators fed by the sump return pump so far it is working good...not a huge amount of flow but it is distributed very good..i was affraid some heads would be stronger than others but they all seem pretty even. I have also placed 1 MJ1200 hanging from a overflow where it is not so noticable. |

| Fuzzy Sticks ![]() | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. Very nice thread. I also like the electrical set up and plumbing. Well done! Im not to sure of the return idea though and am curious to see it in action. I have some ideas on how to improve it if your interested for more strenth and flow. But on the whole i have to say your tank rocks dude. ![]() |

| Star Polyps | Re: cioutlaws 120gal. Sharp lookin tank, my buddy is getting ready to upgrade from his 55 gallon also, the side return is a great idea. What are the pvc joints? Your elbows and 90's look like compression fittings? No blue goo? Getting ideas to set his up.
