Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

Look at post 249 Steve.. It flows from the tank to the sump. The skimmer is in there.. Than to the refugium (the lower container) and back to the tank.

Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

This sump stuff is gonna give me a heart attack... My water in the tank goes up and down so much.. Some times my overflow gurgles like it is sucking air and sometime my water line rises in the tank to high... Well today I go down and the tank is almost over flowing????? Why would the water flucuate so much ? There isnt any adjusting being done on the return pump... Today I had one fish in the over flow ( one of my little purple chromis) The poor fellow I think is in my sump now.. I cant find him though.

Why would the water in the tank go up and down so much? I feel like I cant leave the tank alone for very long...

Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

How much evaporation do you usually get ? I don't remember but are you using an auto-topoff system ? Is there calcium deposits building up on the float switch if your using them ?

Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

For evaporation It is usually right around 3-4 gallons a day.. I dont have auto top off. I just dump some in the sump through out the day and I drip 2 gallons of kalk at night.

I found the chromis in the sump hiding... He is fine though..

What I have noticed though . If the overflow sponges get a little gummed up the over flow fills quite a bit and than I rinse the sponges out. They arent really bad at all, I suppose that would restrict the flow some. Every other day I pull them out and rinse them.. But today the tank probably had an extra 10-15 gallons in it and about ready to over flow, lol Not good.

Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

If the main display's water level is fluctuating and it is drilled with a sump installed, the fluctuation is due to restricted water flow down to the sump.
Check your overflow teeth to be sure they are clean and not clogged;
Check the inlet and pipes to make sure nothing is partially clogging it;
Check the outlet that flows into the sump to be sure there is not something blocking the water

Re: My 265 gallon in wall reef.

Do you think the sponges in the overflow would restrict the flow? It seems to flow through there pretty good... Should I take them out? It makes alot of noise if I do.
