| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Testing ORP probes with Iodine Something I picked up on from ENC. Pick up a std 2 ounce bottle of Tincture of Iodine (USP Grade) and dilute it with 473 mL of RO/DI water. After thoroughly mixed, place enough in a small container to check the probe. It should read between +440 and +455 mV. If it does not you have a probe issue, either dirty or it needs to be replaced.

| Reef Sanctuary's Mr. Wizard ![]() | Re: Testing ORP probes with Iodine Is it true that pH probes should be replaced once a year? Should be doesn't mean needs to be. It is pretty much a std for labs to do it once a year. If the probe can be calibrated and does not drift to much or is not to unstable it is usually fine. Many go two years before changing. I had one that was good for years, as in 10 years. You can still calibrate it, 15 years later but it is very unstable, so about useless. Allot depends on usage, care and maintenance.
