High Calcium - need I worry?

Tested the calcium on one of my tanks and was surprised to find it at 490ppm. Tested twice, need I be worried? Ways to lower it?

thanks

Re: High Calcium - need I worry?

490 is still in the range that many consider acceptable for a reef tank. I wouldn't be worried about it, but if you want to bring it down just stop dosing for a couple days until it is at the level that you want it to be at.

Re: High Calcium - need I worry?

Funny thing is I haven't dosed for at least a week. Oh well, makes sense. Thanks.

Re: High Calcium - need I worry?

490 is fine as long as your alk is not low.

Salt mixes are very different in the amounts of ca/alk/mg/etc... Always test your newly made salt water to know what you're putting in!!! NEVER assume it is correctly balanced!

Re: High Calcium - need I worry?

I would defiantly check you alk level. I would bet it's on the low side, if it is you will want to slowly raise it and you will see your Calcium level come down a bit. When you do this keep an eye on your pH and mag levels.

Here are the parms you are shooting for:
