| Sea Ray ![]() | Re: Awaiting my New RSM 250 Well I told her that I had just set my system up and after one night running with no heater and no lights and the hood in the full up position I was 82 F. and that I had bought a heater to maintain temperature, not a skimmer pump and that I didn't think I should have to buy what should already be there.

| Sea Ray ![]() | Re: Awaiting my New RSM 250 Started fishless cycle today using pure ammonium chloride and 4 oz One & Only NaH2O-PURE Live Nitrifying Bacteria from Dr. Tim's Aquatics. One drop of the ammonium chloride per gallon of water (60 for me) for 2 meq/l ammonium level. Will test water tomorrow and communicate my levels. This is my first experience with the fishless cycling and precured dry rock.

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: Awaiting my New RSM 250 I'm really interested in the ammonia cycling results - that would be so much better IMO than the rotting shrimp, and would be much better and quicker than a shrimp to test fully cured rock for the ability to control the nitrogen cycle. It might just take one dose of ammonia to test the rock.

| NaClH2O Addicted ![]() | Re: Awaiting my New RSM 250 Good information Bob. I think you started out with dry rock? (don't want to go back looking LOL!) The graph was a nice representation of the cycling process! Looking forward to you getting those little bacteria multiplying onto the rock & substrate and if it will take you the full 25 days or less. I think using just the pure ammonia would be a nice way to quickly test the capabilities of fully cured live rock too.

| Sea Ray ![]() | Re: Awaiting my New RSM 250 And I agree on the use of this method for testing "live rock" - dose the reagent up to 2 to 3 meq/l and if it's zero the next morning your good to go to begin slowly adding livestock
