StevieT's Red Sea Max Experience

So, this is like a RSM club right? I have a Red Sea Max 130 but no thread what's up with that?

As many of you know my thread was started on another forum well before this was created. But it's never too late.

We'll start from the present and maybe include earlier pictures for fun later.

I recently had a HUGE scare and was hours away from a full crash. My reefkeeper temp probe failed and the tank went cold over a weekend. Since this is the "Office Max" I am not around this tank Saturday and Sunday.

Luckily I believe the failure happened on a Sunday so it wasn't as bad as it could be. I came into the office Monday morning to see everything near death. After switching the heater back to the stock mode it warmed up slowly. I lost some SPS but all other fish and corals were saved. My huge purple monti still bares the scares of battle as it's entire middle is dead.

Tank was born August 19, 2007

Re: StevieT's Red Sea Max Experience

A little destruction pictures. The water was very cloudy. I did two water changes back to back which saved the tank.

Both Clams were fully open, they could have cared less that the ice age was upon them

Steve - Great to see you share your tank & start a thread on RS & the RSM Club !!!

I found your tank & thread before I found RS & your nice e-mail & PM's were instrumental in me getting and selecting my RSM.

Gorgeous tank, fish & coral - very glad it didn't crash !!!

All the best

Re: StevieT's Red Sea Max Experience

Great to see you finally start a tank thread here StevieT! I can rarely find the time to keep track of your tank on Nano Reefs any more, so this is a good catch-up for me.

My goodness - is there no way to safely control a heater? Now I'll be concerned if my RK probe goes crazy and keeps the heater off! Better than cooking the tank I guess. I hope the corals make it - some of the SPS look a bit iffy. I hated to see this happen to your tank - it's always been one of my inspirations.

Re: StevieT's Red Sea Max Experience

There is a safety back up in the RK unit that will turn the heater "ON" if this temp probe ever occurs. Yet they fail to mention that in the direction sheet.

I learned a lot about this controller though the ordeal, it actually is pretty impressive but they don't put squat about the features in their directions.

How to set it up:

Quote:
Unplugged temp probe, Alarm01 sounded.
Went into outputs, then to output 3 (heater)
Went to Alarm, set it as the same alarm that sounded when i unplugged itemp 01
Set it to ON when alarm sounds.

Took temp probe out and stick my finger on the tip of it so it rose into the 80's, then unplugged the Itemp and the heater kicked on!

The best thing is have a small backup heater somewhere in the tank.
