Re: My RSM 250

Your aquascape is cool, two caves, are so neat.

Did you down size to a RSM250? See you have been a member of RS for a long time.

Re: My RSM 250

ty guys its kinda nice to see such quick responces, i posted this tank a while back on RC and took forever to get anything . Nice to have a place were people appreciate these tanks. Also if anyone got any stock skimmer mobs to reduce bubbles and make it work better would be great. i took thing apart already. let me tell you not inpresed by it at all. My skimmate is sper watery which im not a fan of , would prefer it more gunky but w/e TY once again. i cant wait for new bulbs. I just recieved the FIJI PURPLE, And AB SPECIAL. and the blue pluses get here on monday. i will post pics with these 2 to see diff.

Re: My RSM 250

Sure some 250 owners will jump in soon... let you know where they like to keep it at and what works best.

Might can see some pics here Full Tank RSM Photos~

Always good to have another member with swt experience, we have several in the rsm club that downgraded & share thier sw knowledge with us, having kept large sw tanks for years, always good to have another !

Re: My RSM 250

hotnickz07,

Very nice tank.

That is a surface skimmer, if you raise it... The way it is now you are with the water level on the back very high. I'm wondering how are you able to use the skimmer like this.

Here i raise the gate as much as I can, until I start to see the plastic on the laterals. When I see the plastic I reduce a bit in order not to see it. Voilą, that is how I like mine.

Can you talk about your reef care? Maintenance regimen, etc?

Cheers

Re: My RSM 250

We have the gate up most of the way, the pics in my tank thread (link below) should show, its about 1-2cms below the water level, leaving the water level in the back just above the pump outlets. Seems to work well, get a good skimmate from the stock. Have a look in the Full Tank Shots thread, you should be able to see where everyone else have their gate positioned.

For maintenance, i change 5g of water weekly, dose EcoSystem Reef Solution every day. Brightwell Aquatics Part A & B every other day, I tried MB7 and vodka but i got to much of a algea bloom so i completely stoped it. might give it another whirl in the future.

Re: My RSM 250

Looks to me like it should be lower, can't get to the water line at the side of our tank as the tank is in an alcove,

From the setup guide from RS, pdf avail on the RSM website, the level should be on or slightly below the top of the main Skimmer body. The gate looks about the right depth below the water level, to lower the back level lift the gate a little higher. We run our level in the back a little lower, probably around the 3rd or 4th level mark, and the skimmer airline open completely.

I'm not sure where the thermostat actually is in the heater but I would suggest you want to completely submerge it.

The fine filter pad should only be used for a few hours at a time, as it gets blocked quickly, and yes I use it all the way down, usually after a clean and water change to collect any stirred up rubbish.
