Re: Starting over from scratch

Hopefully the remaining ones will be OK. Good idea on waiting a few months.

3. What is your tank temp and how much does it swing "very important"

4. Is there aggresion in the tank "not the usual nit picking" but true hard core fighting?

5. I see you had a short cycle are you absolutely sure you were cycled? No Ammonia or nitrite?

6. Give me a inventory of your animals in the tank please.

The first thing is what diseaese do they have it could be cryptocaron or oodinium <"misspelled I'm sure" both are called ich but are treated differently. Also caused it, usually it is stress by fighting, temp swings, or water quality. Many times if its not bad just taking away the stress can take care of the disease, my fish get spots when the temp swings "none since I added a chiller" and when the temp would settle the apots go away. Be careful about chasing fish that adds to the stress and stress at this time is very bad.. Personally I'm not a fan of "reef safe" cures I have not found one that works and some just stress, not saying some don't work just the ones I tried did not as advertised. Let me know the answers and if You allow me I can help.
Good luck,
Dave
1. 3 fish showed signs
2. It started by looking like grains of sand on them them bumps inside them
3. I keep the tank at 80 it usually stays between 79 -81
4. No aggresion shown
5. I'm possitive. I watched the ammonia, nitrite, nitrate max out then go to 0. been at 0 ever since.
6.I have CUC -sally lightfoot crab,3 small snails,2 emerald crabs.
2 damsels,1 anemone,3 blue chromis and a baby yellow tang.

Fish that died were baby bangai cardinal, adult diamond goby, baby percula clown

Re: Starting over from scratch

You know two of the fish "bangaii and diamond" if wild are notoriously bad, even the clown if it was wild. You might have siffered through sh%^^y fish syndrome. The damsels are really hard to kill and the yellow if it came healthy should be ok. If I were you I would deffinately hold off on buying fish for sometime and get a quarentine tank or get quarentined fish "at least fish the lfs has had awhile". Keep an eye on the remianing fish and watch any over feeding or temp swings and the such.
Good Luck,
Dave

Re: Starting over from scratch

You still have ICH in the tank. Don't assume its gone.

Two choices.

1. Try to get rid of all the ich.

2. Make the tank ICH tolerable.

Getting rid of it all means copper or hyposaline.

#2 means keeping water super clean, adding UV, vitamins for slime coat etc.

Its not gone.

Re: Starting over from scratch

Fallow tank for 8 weeks will defeat the ICH's life cycle.

Anything short is spinning your wheels and just fooling yourself.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!
Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.

Re: Starting over from scratch

I ran some reef safe kick-ick for 13 days as recommended. I haven't had any problems. If the problem reoccurs then I will let the tank fallow for 8 weeks.
