Re: Leather coral - where can i put them?

they will attach but it takes some time and the flow may move the base back and forth to increase the time it normally would take. What I have done in the past is the toothpick trick. On the frags and the mother colony I have placed a toothpick (try to get the sharpest you can for a not so blunt puncture) through the base and then using rubberbands, wrap them around the rock or new base. Wait a few weeks and then slide the toothpick out and voila.

Re: Leather coral - where can i put them?

So I got home tonight and noticed my leather toadstool are dead! I took them out of the tank. Also my GSP's still haven't come out after 10 days. My Xenia and yellow star polyps seem to be fine. I don't know what the problem is. I change 15 gallons a month and I never use tap water (I go to the nearby market and fill filtered water). Am I feeding to much? Is it possible the store I bought from is bad? I just don't get it. Someone please help me.

Re: Leather coral - where can i put them?

I'm not sure I can explain it either, but sorry to hear about the toadstools. Are your water parameters looking OK? I don't think overfeeding would cause it unless you have ammonia or nitrites, or too high of a nitrate level. I'm just looking for reasons. How's the tank temperature?

I do a water change of 4-5 gallons once a week and about 10 gallons once every month to month and a half.

I would suggest 10 gals every week (10-15%) on a rsm 250, I do 5 gals a week on my 130D, it has been working great for me... I think it's a "real key"

lakersfreak This is to late, but are you using any phosphate remover in your tank, phosphate removers have aluminum in them and soft corals do not like this. Just a thought

No not using any phosphate removers. Should I add any additives weekly; like magnesium and/or calcium? Or does the live rock provide that naturally?

Re: Leather coral - where can i put them?

You should test water weekly and add whatever you need. If your magnesium is off your calcium and dk will never be right no matter how much you add. also if mag is low hair algea will start, so try to keep it around 1300. Calcium around 400-450 and dk around 8 or 9 and that should be a good start

I am using CPE and it is time to change it. My last change was 5 months ago. I thought you have to change it every 6 months.

Re: Leather coral - where can i put them?

The manufacture say the CPE last up to six months... I change mine 4 times a year... and I can see the difference...

Boyd Chemi Pure Elite Details.

CHEMI-PURE comes packed in pure polyester filter bags in sealed plastic bottles, called 1 unit, one of which is recommended for up to 40 gallons of water, and which is completely active for 4-6 months
