chiller inside cabinet

I recently installed a prime 1/15 mini chiller along with the rsm ventilation fan inside my 130D cabinet. If I leave the cabinet door open it works fine, but if I close the cabinet door it seems to overheat. When the chiller is running with the door closed it will read a temperature 3-4 degrees warmer than the actual water temperature. E.g. I have my chiller set to 78 but with the cabinet door closed it will cool the tank down to 74 because the thermostat will still read 78. Anyone else have issues like this? I thought the RSM ventilation kit would let me keep a chiller in the cabinet.

Thanks.

Re: chiller inside cabinet

Is the fan blowing the air inside the cabinet towards the front door or out the back?. You want it to blow the air out the back.

Re: chiller inside cabinet

Yup, the fan is installed correctly and blowing out... I guess I'm just going to have to leave the door open when the chiller is running :/

Re: chiller inside cabinet

If the fan is pulling air out of the cabinet, where is the replacement air coming from? I wonder if a few wholes need to be drilled into the cabinet (preferably the front) to bring cooler air in more easily?

Re: chiller inside cabinet

The bottom shelf of the RSM cabinet is cut back to allow for airflow to come up underneath the front door.

Re: chiller inside cabinet

It sounds like either

A) Not enough fresh air to cool it

B) not enough air ciruclation to the right AREA of the chiller to remove the heat being taken in.

Your best bet (and usually not the most attractive one) is to get the chiller placed somewhere else. The problem with having one that close to the tank (really even in the same room) is that as it removed HEAT from the tank it slowly heats the surrounding area and slowly re-introduces this heat back into the tank. Talk about a vicious cycle and waste of energy.

Live Rock Rubble will do the SAME thing as Bio-Balls and is NOT a suitable replacement for BIO-BALLS in a Reef System! It's ALL gotta go!!

Nitrate (NO3) reduction is directly proportional to percentage of Water Change.
Allen's home-made formula...currentNO3-((%WC*.01)currentNO3)=finalNO3 (thanks Luukosian)
This means if you change 50% of your total water volume (That's EVERYTHING) you'll get a net reduction of (NO3) somewhere around 50%.

Ask me about how to increase your REEF budget without going without FOOD!!
