Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

That's a first for me I think. But, definitely not the first time I've done a stupid thing with the tank. At least I haven't wiped out the tank yet.

Same thing will happen with Chemi-Pure - be careful before the "stupid monster" gets you!

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Reefman36 - A month is a long time to still be getting that many bubbles. How old is your tank? Do you have a lot of bio-load (fish & fish feeding)? Are you getting any skimmate & what color is it? If the tank is new & you have little or no bio-load, you may not have enough gunk to provide a stable foam and good skimmate.

Do you have an RSM or another type tank?

What kind of additives do you use? Do you use any dechlorinating chemicals or a red slime treatment? Both of those will cause a skimmer to overfoam - same with the epoxy used to cement corals in place.

I'd suggest you send a "help!" message or email to nanoskim - you can find a post by him near the top of this page.

If the skimmer is making too much foam I would suggest using air control valves to reduce the air intake.
Normally speaking the foam level inside the skimmer body would rise over time and the bubbles through the foam would decrease unless you have a lot of organics in the tank or some foaming agent. From my experience these are the main reasons for having excess foam in the bottom of the skimmer.

You can email me your phone number and we can try to troubleshoot real time.

Just installed and it's leaking...

I just installed the Euro Reef on my RSM 130. It is leaking pretty bad where the collection cup attaches to the cylinder. Will this go away?

When the skimmer is new and is pushing watery foam past the transition there may be some water leaking because the pump is pushing water instead of dry foambut this should go away as soon as the foam starts to dry out.
Let me know how it progresses.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

I do not have an RSM, so I am not sure I can officially join this club, but I have been running a ER Nano Skimmer that I ordered from Robbert a while back. This is a dual-pump sump model, the body is 3.5" diameter, 12" tall, and the skimmer cup is about 7" tall (1 cup capacity). It is currently running on my 55g (w DSB) in an 15" deep overflowing sump compartment.

I'm not pulling the gunk that some of you here are (what are you guys feeding these RSM tanks BTW?), but overall I've been pleased and it is producing well.

This is typical for 24 hours production:

Tuned a bit drier:

I also have a used H&S 90-F1000 that I picked up recently. The H&S pulls in half as much air, but I was curious to see how they compare.

Again, 24 hours production (but included an algae pruning session)

90-F1000 tuned drier:

Looks like Robbert made some improvements since he made mine. Using the solid acrylic rod for the hanging bracket is great. My hollow one already has a hairline crack from tightening the nylon screw...

I am really curious about that flow restrictor at the bottom of the skimmer. I will have to ask Robbert if he thinks that may give me the ability to fine tune my production better...

Let us know how it works for you...

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Hi rroselavy - well, at least you qualify as a member of the Euro-Reef skimmer club! I hope to get my sump & sump version E-R in Saturday, and I'll be sure to be posting when I get it going.

Update - New Sump Skimmer

I got my sump in today, as well as my new custom built Euro-Reef sump skimmer. I used the pumps from the Euro-Reef that I had in the back of the RSM, cleaned them and the mesh wheels up, and popped the new skimmer in the sump.

The new sump:

This was right after plugging in the skimmer pumps:

I've adjusted it so that it's now pushing foam up the neck, almost, but not quite, into the cup. I'm going to leave it there to break in overnight and if needed adjust it tomorrow to push foam into the cup.

Once again - nice work Robbert! It was worth waiting for!
