I've been wondering too. Todd hasn't replied to my emails in about a week, and when I tried calling his company number I get a fax machine. I hope he's OK and just on vacation, or has computer problems again at the very worst.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

I have talked to Todd several times this week and he is very busy working.
Like him, at the end of the day I am to tired to sit on my computer besides dealing with my customers' needs all day long.
The heat wave does not help much either.Hopefully this will end soon and things will be normal again.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Thanks for the update Robbert. Good to know he's OK, and just very busy. I can sympathize with the dealing with customer needs thing - that's one thing I will not miss when I retire!

Yeah, I deal with customers all day long at my auto repair shop. Most are really a pleasure to work with but some are a real pain in the A$$...

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Hi Robbert, glad to hear that as well.

hello all, been a little over 2 weeks now with my skimmer and it's working great! Sits 3" above the plate now and seems to have reached equilibrium. Here's the reason we all bought this. I put in a new bag of carbon today and in my hurry to head to work I did not rinse it. Was kicking myself afterwards with the cloud it created. Came in the evening though and water was crystal clear and this is what was in the skimmer cup Phenomenal. On a related note, the second pic shows the coating inside the skimmer body itself that has built up over the last 2 weeks. Should I be cleaning it? or should I just wait till the month is over when i will be running the skimmer through vinegar?

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Great job of pulling out the carbon dust! I usually use a brush on the inside of the cyclinder when it gets that buildup. I think the buildup can be counter-productive to skimming. On the other hand, doing a cleanup of the whole skimmer with vinegar may remove so much of that coating that was developed during break-in that the skimmer may go though another break-in period? If you do it let us know.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Cool, I will just use the toothbrush I normally use to clean the collection cup and rub that sludge off. I should be able to do it in place right? It should be skimmed right back out into the cup.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Yep - I just shut mine off and use a brush on it, without pulling the skimmer. The foam eventually will push the stuff up into the cup.

Someday I will tell you a story about one of our larger skimmers located in a tank in the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas...painters accidentally dumped a can of paint in the aquarium and everyone was in in shock about loosing the animals....they were even more shocked when the skimmer removed all the paint in a matter of minutes and no animals were lost...try to top that one!

That is what an efficiently designed skimmer will do.

Regards to all,
Robbert

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Kudos Robbert This is what the promise of a skimmer is And the ER delivers. A question for you and Terry. After I cleaned the sludge in the body (Just turned it off, took off the collection cup and ran a toothbrush all around), the foam level dropped quite a bit! The body was 3" above the plate before and now I have it at 1" above the plate and the foam still barely reaches the joint! Is this normal? or is this just temporary and I am better off leaving it at 3"?

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

An update: looks like it's back to 3 inches. Needed some time to settle after cleaning the skimmer body top. (actually right now it sits at 4" but the way the foam level is behaving I am sure it will be back to it's original behavior by nightfall)

Well you got your answer from the skimmer LOL

My suggestion is to leave the skimmer where it is once you have established normal operating position....if all of a sudden the foam level changes while nothing was done to the aquarium or skimmer then you better check for salt creep in airlines/mufflers, clog in the venturie intake or mesh wheel integrity.

Regards to all,
Robbert
