Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Fantastic - mine has been running for 24hrs now but no skimmate as yet. It has picked up some larger particles and deposited them on the neck. i am running the smaller wheels so may take a little longer.

For those of you who been wondering if step down converters work in the UK i can confirm they work perfectly.

Quick question for the experts - one of my pumps is putting out more micro bubble than the other. In addition if I cover the silencer port on that pump there is a delay in seeing the effect in the bubble column (its immediate on the other pump). Could there be an issue or I am I just messing about too much??

Cant wait for it to kick in!!!

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

JMH,
This is why I recommend a flow meter to everyone with a skimmer! You can hook your airline to it and tell in a snap what's going on.
Glad to hear the step dpwn converters worked nicely! Check to make sure there are no obstructions in the air intake hole inside the venturi. You "MAY" have a piece of plastic in there.
You are right at the point of kick in time! Keep us posted and let us know when she kicks in. You will be very happy with the results!

Hi JMH

Just a quick point when i first powered up the skimmer i looked from above and noticed a fair amount of bubbles coming from underneath one of the pumps. After inspection i found that one of the air tubes wasn't fully pushed into the ventury underneath but after a dab of super glue and refixing is was a dream. Must of worked loose during transport.

Graham,
WOW! Man, you had a large build up of organics in your tank water. I think the best is yet to come as far as what you get out of your tank water.
That's alot in a very short time. Has tank water really cleared up??

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Well the predictions were spot on - 30 hours into operation and the skimmer kicked in in a major way. Now been producing skimmate for about 10 hours or so and already 1 inch of skimmate in the cup!!

Reinserted the airline into the one pump and it seems to have made a difference - bubbles reducing all the time. That pump is making a little noise almost as if you can hear the mesh wheel catching but I ma going to leave it all to settle down.

Great stuff and thanks for the advice ref the airline.

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

As previously stated I check each air line every day on my skimmers and yesterday I found one of the ER Skimmer lines as well as its muffler plugged. I ran hot water down the air line, took the muffler apart and blew that out clean. Before I could check the line I noticed lots of micro bubbles in the tank so I knew there was a problem somewhere. So for the guys just starting up on these, check those lines and mufflers if your having a problem!

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Patience does it. The skimmer has been in the tank for about 3 weeks and in the last couple of days it routinely pulled out (within a 24hr period) about 80cc of wet, dark skimmate and quite a bit of dry one around the tube. I am impressed ... reminded me of what I used to see with the CS8-2 in my bigger tank. The bubbles has died down a lot, and I probably will take the sponge off this weekend so I can lower the skimmer. Currently, the top is sitting ~2.5in above the plate.

Thanks Robbert for all your help.

Don't know what happen:dunno:

Last night and tonight, especially after feeding (I fed with Formulae 1 and 2 pellets), the bubbles inside the column went crazy and filled up the cup within a few minutes. I now have the skimmer at its highest position (with the top of the pumps almost above water surface).
I have been feeding with Formulae 1 and 2 pellets all these times.
Please help

I think I might have figured out why... we have painters coming in to paint the walls... it could be the fumes that trigger the skimmer to go crazy (although the fish tank is in another room).
But why it got worse right after feeding ... than I do not know

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Mine used to pump out more skimmate after feeding formula one flake, but never to the point of what yours is doing. No idea on what effect the paint fumes would have.

Be very careful to protect the aquarium from paint fumes, they float long distances...one of my friends lost a lot of animals while he had his rooms painted. The skimmer will try to take out the paint residue particles immediately!

Re: RedSea Max/ Euroreef Skimmer Page

Hey guys, been trolling this thread for a while. And been in touch with Todd and Robbert for a few weeks. Was in LA over the long weekend, met up with Robbert and got the ER skimmer for my RSm 250. Set it up today and here are some pics. Robbert made a drain hole and plug for me so I could attach an external waste container. Also he did a foam plug in the bottom as you can see. Been about 8 or 9 hours running now. Started with the body about 5 inches above the plate. Have been lowering it since then as the bubble body drops. At this point it's about 2 inches above the plate. Hoping that it will kick in tomorrow. There's a lot of bubbles in the tank right now. From what I read here, it will subside once the skimmer breaks in? Maybe removing the foam will help as well. But I don't mind it for a few days
